Re: >>>>>>>OU-Northwestern State Gameday Thread<<<<<<<

Lattin leads with 11 and 8 boards. James and Woodard with 7 each. Odomes with four assists.

Re: >>>>>>>OU-Northwestern State Gameday Thread<<<<<<<

That was just on D though. Shepherd actually looked decent at the other end. they didnt pressure him much but he was confident and not afraid to put up a shot.

in the first half the defensive work was obvious the switches were smooth, help D was even decent, and the interior was busy but seriously untested physically in this contest. Lattin is very busy.

Sooners up 22

Re: >>>>>>>OU-Northwestern State Gameday Thread<<<<<<<

woodard looks like he's just picking up where he left off. James and Freeman both have nice looking shots. Freeman has this nice arc and he has a quick shot. really nice stretch.

Re: >>>>>>>OU-Northwestern State Gameday Thread<<<<<<<

uh oh ... NSU figured out Shepherd is lost so they're gonna pick on him now. poor kid!

Freeman looks awesome shooting. nice quickness. let's see if he can defend.

Jumani sometimes looks like really slick. Like he's right on the edge.

Re: >>>>>>>OU-Northwestern State Gameday Thread<<<<<<<

it's cool shepherd getting this time. lon's a good coach. that kid already looks more calm than he did.

Re: >>>>>>>OU-Northwestern State Gameday Thread<<<<<<<

horribly mismatch physically. freeman is a starter. Lattin will be a monster this season. James was smooth as was Jordan. shepherd was a noob but seems steady. you can see why they like him.,

Re: >>>>>>>OU-Northwestern State Gameday Thread<<<<<<<

I wonder if this game and the exhibition game are reflective of the pace we are looking to play. We seem to want to go quick, which makes sense to me because of how good oru athletes are.

Re: >>>>>>>OU-Northwestern State Gameday Thread<<<<<<<

Just saw this is the second game we shot a "low" percentage on FTs. Hope we can improve on that as the season goes. Missed FTs can cost games.

I just loved the pace. I love the fact they arent timid to take the open shot if it seems to be in their wheelhouse. To me that's good coaching.

How did Strong look?

Yup. We might be able to grind out games (will have to a few times this season I am sure), but they look natural scoring in transition and aren't hesitant to take good shots when they have them. I agree that it is good coaching.

How did Strong look?

Strong looked completely sufficient. I think he was a known commodity so they gave more time to Shepherd. I havent seen the box though but thats how it felt. Strong put up good shots, looked like a good director at the top, and took it to the hole a couple of times. He was like a veteran on the floor.

Re: >>>>>>>OU-Northwestern State Gameday Thread<<<<<<<

I think it's a toss up between the two back up point guards. But they both have to be ready. If Strong is the guy, you never know when his shoulder will be an issue. The freshman will get better fast. I think he looks calm. He needs to redshirt. But I don't think that will be able to happen.

Re: >>>>>>>OU-Northwestern State Gameday Thread<<<<<<<

I was blown away by Strong. I think he gets some serious minutes at point with Woodard moving to the 2 where he was great last year. I like Shepherd too.

Woodard has improved his penetration.

Hard to tell against mid-majors but we look better than our rating. Just the fundamental basketball and athleticism.

I had a similar thought. I know rankings don't matter at this point, but in my opinion we look like a top 25 team.

I guess we won't have to wait long to test that theory. We should have a chance to play some good teams in Orlando later this week. I'm always a bit concerned about young guys away from home, but I think we have a very good chance to make a mark at that tournament.
