in Big 12 coaches pre season poll. Texas is nuber 1, followed by Baylor, WVU, and OSWho.

If we end up at #5, there needs to be some serious changes taking place.

I'm surprised we are that high considering we have a lot of question marks about this team and we are coming off one of the worst years in Sherri's tenure.

If we don't see significant improvement in the squad by conference, I don't think Big 12-2 play is going to be very much fun.

Personally, I think we will see that improvement. I have high hopes that there are surprises in this group.

The interesting point is, most on this board have been of the opinion we should finish no worse than 3rd. What do the coaches see that we have not considered? Have we been too optimistic in evaluating this team or are the coaches that far off on the Sooners?

I think the coaches have a "what have you done for me lately" opinion, and after last year, I understand why. I personally think we have the kids to compete with every one in the conference, and will surprise every one. I like kind of being under the radar. However if we have a repeat, then their should be some changes. I think we will have a very successful year with this group of kids.

Well, they did wind up tied for 5th last year, then lost 3 starters and are replacing them players who have done little or nothing in their college careers. Could it be that Little, Manning and Ortiz wind up being better than the players they replaced? Sure, but you're not going to get much credit in preseason polls when nobody has seen them play yet.

You're probably right. I did notice that Texas is pretty young this year. I think they will start 2 freshmen and only one senior.

No Vegas.
No interior experience at all.
Best player is a transfer apparently.
In terms of known quantities, 5th sounds right.

In addition to developing the talent on hand, an attitude change will be required.

Big 12 pre-season poll video stated that McKenna could step In with big minutes.

I think it is due to the youth of the team. I believe last year was the first Sherri team I recall having chemistry issues, and I believe that contributed to a lot of the inconsistent play. I am looking forward to watching the new kids.

Basically our season could come down to how good the backcourt of Little and Ortiz will be, or if Campbell has turned in to a consistent scorer. If Carter/Manning can push Little for a starting spot that would be a good thing.

I think there is a good chance we will see Ortiz, Little, and Maddie starting this year. I also expect to see Sharane starting at the 4.

I agree, I just hope the depth we have will develop and Sherri will use it as a strength and not necessarily stay with only a 8 or 9 player rotation.

I agree. Following are the players I would think would get decent minutes this year:

Ortiz
Edwards
Manning
Little
Carter
Sharane
Kaylon
Treece
ViVi (if healthy)
Kornet

I just do not see Sherri going more than 10 deep, if that. But, if she does, it will keep fresh legs on the court the entire game and develop quality depth.
