Man, don't get involved in the discussions over there. I can respect someone who closely follows OU basketball and logically comes to the conclusion that they think Capel should be fired, but those people over there suddenly know the pulse of this program and KNOW that Capel is not the answer and needs to be fired. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a terrible fan, apparently. They've been reading the newspapers too much and me, I don't read the newspapers.

it's offseason right now, need something to get the natives up and about.

btw didn't even know people talked about OU bball there, thought that was only on this site.

actually I'd love to have CT and Cgates and Sflasooner over here to add to the hoops discussion, they do have some incredible sources.

Would love to see CT over here too, but it seems like he's in his element over there as big fish in a small pond.

Doubt he wants to jump into the Thunder Dome here with the likes of Booger and others.

They have some great sources but they got everybody convinced Joe C. was out talklng already to 3 different coaches..then it was no an outside agency....and on and on. Joe C. does not operate that way. Joe if he had decided to go a different direction he would have already told Jeff before he or anybody on behalf of him were going to test the waters. That is just not Joe. He takes great pride in his treatment of coaches and these things. Joe is one of those kind of guys who want to look you straight in the eye and tell you but not do things behind your back. I don't doubt they were hearing things from excellent sources. I thought one time that Sam Bradford was definitely going pro after the 2008 BCS NCG.I had incredibly reliable what I thought to be true from the Godfather of OU Football. I didn't think there was any way possible for it to not be true. Well to this day I don't know if Sam changed his mind or what but it just goes to show that sometimes even people you would think for sure know don't. In Joe's case the last thing he wants is for people or prospective future coaches to think he went around behind Capel's back and was exploring who was available.

Had they been reporting that some key OU Foundation members or TipIn Club boosters or Regents thought something was up is one thing. But to say 3 coaches had been contacted I believe to not be true but that is strictly an opinion. They stand behind that.

Think about it for a moment. Joe is going to talk to several coaches or an outside agency about replacing a coach who has not been fired and then those guys or agents are going to risk it all by telling people. Or if that was the case would a friend of Josh Pastner go post it on a message board? If you wanted to be a friend why would you. The Joe I know is dot every i twice and cross every t twice. When Joe does searches or stuff concerning ND and Stoops he doesn't tell a soul. He loathes that it could be traced to him. He would be mortified. I could be dead wrong and Capel could be gone tomorrow. But I hear all but a month ago Capel definitely had thru 2013. Well that could have been shortened but I don't think 2 years. I think there is a source of incorrect information and it is all coming from the same place (not them) and because of that it has developed some legs.

Again I have no accurate or inside recent information but from what I have heard about Joe and his dealings if he indeed is firing Capel it wasn't truly known by anybody. Some say he is 50/50 but I don't believe he would tell somebody that. His no comments I do find puzzling but of course if he said something in KC it would have taken the focus off the game.

Again I was told a month ago by a knowledgeable person that Joe C. told him that Capel was the right guy to get us back and he had his 110% support. The thing is regardless what happens even if Capel is fired that Joe was not out snooping and guaging coaches interest to see if he could replace Capel with someone good and if not keep Capel. JMHO but I just don't see that.

BTW I did not like the hiring of Capel in the first place and was critical when his first team lost 7 of their last 8.

I think you are probably right, and it's probably why I would be shocked if Jeff is really fired. And as I've also said I'm anti-Jeff keeping this job because I think the fan base may be at an all time low next year. Next year has to be completely a do or die year. Even the NIT won't do for next year. And that's a big jump from being bad to being a top caliber team in a tough conference.

If Joe keeps Capel he is telling us that he wants nothing better than an average men's basketball program.

Zilch, you're either incredibly naive or you're blinded by your personal feelings/relationships in this matter.

The attendance won't drop more than this year. Most the people on here complaining don't even go to the games.

I agree, it is pretty hard for it to drop any lower than it is right now, but will people that had season tickets that didnt go renew? And will Joe put up with more nights of less than 5,000 in the LNC. That is a ton of lost revenue on concessions.

This is the exact argument that the SoonerScoop people are regurgitating.

Or he's telling us he can't hire the quality of coach he wants right now because of uncertainty about the Tiny Gallon NCAA issue. There is no point ot firing Capel if you can't hire someone better at this time. It's better to keep him another year in the hopes that the Tiny issue will be resolved one way or another.

Zilch,

Let me claify one thing you have grouped me as saying that is not true. I have never said Joe C has contacted 3 coaches already. What I have stated is that a firm has been been doing prelim work on guaging interest if there was an opening. This happens all the time with universities and it does not mean a coaching change will happen, but it is part of the process any successful athletic Dept. uses to plan ahead. I also know for a fact Josh P from Memphis was contacted by an outside agency asking his interest. His response was " OU has a basketball coach, so I can not comment on a job that is not open at the present time." Just making it clear what I have said for the record, I dont want to be grouped in with what your were stating in your post. Joe C does not operate like that, actually I can't think of 1 AD who would. Should be an interesting week.
