Not really.
Good history. But nothing that suggests excellence should be expected. Had a good stretch in late 80s and early 00s.
Huh?
1. There is a BIG area between where we are now and "excellence." I'm not asking to be elite. I'm asking for consistent finishes in the top 4 of the Big 12. Seeds that give us a legit shot at making a Sweet 16. In general, consistently being a top 25ish team. You know, like we used to be?
2. OU basketball produced significantly better results from 1982-2006, then it has from 2007 to today. 25 seasons vs 14. Four .500 or sub-.500 conference records vs eight. Five missed NCAA Tournaments vs five. Five conference regular season titles vs none (outright I guess per the site I'm using). Six conference tournament championships vs none. Fourteen top 25 finishes vs four.
So please don't tell me our program doesn't have a lot of room for improvement to get back to where we spend 25 years. It may have changed now after Capel/Kruger, but at one point, OU was regarded as a top 25 program all time, and one of the top 2-3 I believe that had never won a NC.
