This bunch is done. I'm afraid it only get's worse from here. At least spring football is near.

Re: >>>>>>OU-Texas Tech Gameday Thread<<<<<<

Sorry didn't know you were with the team in the last timeout . :facepalm

I watched the play develop. I've watched basketball before.

You saw Buddy cutting to the top of the key and fading toward the far sideline calling for the ball while Cousins looked at him trying to get a window for the pass. When Buddy cleared out, Cousins had a bit of a lane (I think because the defender was hedging a screen a bit to the opposite side) and drove the ball. Because he had a step, the defense down low rotated, and when Cousins saw that, he threw the oop.

The play was not drawn up to get Lattin an alley oop in the huddle. I don't have to be in the huddle to be able to tell you that.

And again, after everything that happened in that play. The ill advised oop, the mishandling of it by Lattin...

Spangler sends the game to OT if he makes a two-footer from directly in front of the basket.

This team peaked in Lawrence (too early), virtually no post production, virtually no bench production, teams have learned how to defend us, fatigue and nagging injuries (I don't care if they are 18-20 yo), defense has diminished. I'll be surprised if they can win in Morgantown OR Austin.

All that being said, I love all the players, they play hard all the time, great people on and off the court, great coaching staff and they've provided us fans with maybe some of the most exciting OU basketball for a couple of months.

I see Sweet 16/Elite 8 the max for this team unfortunately. I feel bad for seniors, especially Buddy, but very proud of them all!

I don't know if the effort is there.

Cousins is all smiles when he makes a shot and sags around when he misses or things aren't going his way

Re: >>>>>>OU-Texas Tech Gameday Thread<<<<<<

Went back and watched the play again. Play was for Hield, but they switch and had it covered.

Opened a big lane for Cousins that drew Lattin's man to cut off the lane. Lattin was wide open, Cousins threw it maybe a tad high, and Lattin booted it.

Rebound fell right to Soangler, and just like the Big 12 tournament game against ISU, he fumbled it as he went for the open layup. He got hit in the head after the shot, but it did not alter his shot at all.

I am not disappointed with the play. Thought it was a pretty decent design, but There's not a lot of good to say about the bigs on that play other than Ryan laid a good screen on Buddy's man before the switch

Not sure if football will have the success they had last year..Last year OU got lots of lucky breaks.

Hell, I just hope we can keep it within single digits this Saturday.

And yes everyone loves these guys, but I totally disagree that they play hard all the time....because they don't. Tonight they were infectiously lazy at times. And their incompetence on the boards in the last two minutes likely cost them the game.

If that happens then we lose in OT.

I don't think that's necessarily true.

The game was back and forth all night. We would have had just as good a chance as Tech to win it in OT.

Re: >>>>>>OU-Texas Tech Gameday Thread<<<<<<

Embarassing. This team sucks right now

Definitely not playing well and I would guess if they do not turn things around asap we will be playing for a #3 seed. Got to play better or may lose 3 more conference games (at Morgantown, at Austin and remotely Baylor in Norman).

Not only are we not shoot well our offense is not getting good open shots. Defense still allows too much penetration for easy baskets. Got beat on the boards the last 5 minutes. We score 2 points the last 2:25 Tech scores 8 and had 3 offensive boards. Out scored 10-2 last 3:22 by Kansas.

Re: >>>>>>OU-Texas Tech Gameday Thread<<<<<<

I did. Spangs got hit after he released the ball. Was it a foul? Yes. Is Spangler a giant douche for missing a point blank layup for the four millionth time in his career? Also, yes.

That's not correct. I watched the replay in slo-mo multiple times.

0 for TT reached over Spangler's back and hit his head (1st time) with his left hand when Spangler got the rebound. As Spangler was putting back the shot with both hands, 0 cracked him in the head with his right arm as he's swatting at the ball from behind. At the 4.9/8 mark, you can clearly see that his arm is against Spangler's head as he's getting ready to release the ball...Spangler's head even cocks to the side a bit. You can even see 0's body against Spangler's and Spangler's body move to the left as 0 is all over him. Watch where Spangler lands, which is a good foot to the left of where he caught and released the ball...all because 0 was all over him.

I watched the replay multiple times and u must have had a different angle

Re: >>>>>>OU-Texas Tech Gameday Thread<<<<<<

Did Spangler get fouled? Possibly
But IMHO he needs to go up stronger than that with the ball. Especially at the end of the game.
That late in the game your not as likely to get a foul call.

But more than just that missed shot lost the game.
I keep thinking about the 3 consecutive offensive possessions Tech had in the last 1:30 because we couldnt pull down a rebound.

We are just getting outworked by teams lately.

Re: >>>>>>OU-Texas Tech Gameday Thread<<<<<<

funny, what I noticed in this thread is....

not many of us complaining of bad calls, yeah a few...but MOST of us complaining about bad shots, no block outs (rebounding), ball handling, passing...

At least we blame our own team (which should be)...

love the Sooners and any young person who plays for OU...but this team is falling and falling fast.

Boomer~

Nah, same angle. I just watched over and over in slo-mo. You can even see 0's arm/elbow resting on Spangler's shooting shoulder/back as he's releasing the ball. I think that contact and 0 hitting Spangler either in the head and/or on the shoulder as he's releasing it was a major reason why he shot it short. Like I said, 0's body into Spangler caused him to land about a foot over from where he started on what appeared to be a straight on shot.

Also, for those of you saying he should've put it back strong - it's not like he caught it under the basket. He caught it with both feet on the outer arc. He tried to put it back with 0 all over his back/head/shoulder and 20 swatting at the ball from the front, somewhat standing between Spangler and the basket.

Two things: first, Cousins' oop to Lattin was a BAD pass. second, even if it had been a better pass, Lattin was late getting there, hurting his chances of converting it.
Third (yeah, I said two things, but...) third, Spangler definitely choked on the putback. No excuse for his failing to convert that chance, you expect more from a senior with his experience.

And I agree that the play was drawn up to kick the ball to Buddy, but TT player defensed it well, cutting off the pass.
In hindsight, I wish that Cousins would have driven to the basket and either tried for the shot himself or tried to draw the foul.

Oh well, really disappointing ending. I wasn't able to watch it (don't get ESPNU), but was able to watch the final seconds.

Unfortunately, championship teams don't choke away a win like this to a mediocre team like Tech.

Re: >>>>>>OU-Texas Tech Gameday Thread<<<<<<

Up 61-57. Get a stop, Lattin fumbles the board away out of bounds.

Tech hits a three.

Snowball from there.

I do not, nor will I ever, understand the cult of personality regarding Manyang.

Nailed it. And these are the types of little things (like holding onto a freaking rebound) that this team has been not been doing as well the last three weeks....and now it is costing us games.
