OU-Texas

It is amazing how much better a team can be when they come out with fire, play with energy, chase every loose ball, move when a ball is shot instead of watching, and come determined to play tough defense.
Everybody contributed.

This is what has been missing in last few games. Now if there was a way to bottle it up to keep it going that needs to happen.

One good thing about winning is that we don't have to listen to a couple of major Sherri haters.

Oh well there will be another time.

This is really a Dr. Jeckl and Mr. Hyde team.

Thought the officiating was pretty awful.

ViVi's emergence is really encouraging. She has scored 2 points for every 3 minutes she has played this year and a lot more lately. She also plays good defense without fouling at times. She got hosed on one call today. What can you do but stand perfectly still with your hands straight up.

This is my sarchasm day. But great job of lowering the boom on the Horns with their giants and hot recruiting classes.

The roller coaster season continues. Has to frustrate Sherri as much as all of us to see a team with so much potential ( play like they did today ) play like the did in Stillwater.

We shot 41% and it felt like an offensive explosion. We could do atleast that every game. But next Wed is gonna be a really tough game for us. We shoot 40% I think we will win- if not then idk.

Vivi still leads the Big Twelve in shooting percentage at 64.5%.

If we play with the energy that we had today, we will blow West Virginia off the court. If not, we could lose by twenty. West Virginia is not the type of team that beats you if you play well. They try to force you into playing to their level.

I got to go today, first game this year. Some observations;

The crowd was pathetic. I know it was Valentine's Day but yikes! If you took out everyone over 60 or under 15 there might not have been 200 people there. I stood and clapped the final two minutes and it was silent everywhere.

First couple of minutes Gabbi was playing over the edge and I thought we were in trouble but she gained some control and played well from then on.

Maddie was a berserker the entire game, my MVP.

Vivi and Kay Kay both played well and didn't seem tired to me. They missed some close shots but were being hacked like crazy. Some of Texas steals were from a Rugby playbook. One Texas block was over the back of Maddie.

The refs were bad both ways. Everyone in my section called a charge on an OU player but the refs missed it. Too many calls from a ref on the opposite side of the court when the ref no more than five feet from the action didn't make is call. WBB will never grow in popularity until the ref problem is fixed.

Texas played a worse fourth quarter than any quarter OU has ever played.

I thought we were more athletic than Texas. T'ona, Maddie, Vivi outmatched their players pretty much the whole game. They had one player, small gal, who kept getting under the basket and making reverse layups who played at our level. Their 1 and 5's were not impressive at all.

Being guarded by Maddie is like being guarded by an octopus.

This game recognized Sherri's 20 years of coaching here, I'll drive her to the bank to deposit her check if she wants.

Had a great time.

Great post!!

I anyone else was like me and missed the game (I was on the road) it will be replayed at 8:00 on FoxOK.

Peyton looked more like her old self today. Looks like she is playing confidence. Great to see! VPL is going to be a load for anyone in the Big 12 for the next 2 years.

Well, most of us AREN'T Sherri haters we just speak the truth- we like Sherri and appreciate all she has done for OU but we recognize how the program has dropped off the last 4 years.
That being said I give props to Sheri and the girls for today's game as I Always do when we give great effort and there is great preparation - good job

As to some of the comments talking about us beating Texas's great recruits - yes this time BUT they will be playing in the tourney long after OU has exited and that is because of better players - Sherri needs to get back to what she WAS doing and recruiting.

Again great game today.

I really didn't think we would win today to be quite honest. I am so proud of these kids and the toughness they showed today. It got physical at times and our girls did not back down. Excellent defensive effort, and some really good pressure made shots. Not taking any thing away from Texas, but this is the fourth time I have watched them this year, and even though they only have two losses now, I am still not sold on them, not sour grapes, just not sold.

Two very good performances from our Posts, played tough down the stretch and figured out how to take it to Imani. Maddie was fantastic, and nice to see Peyton shooting well again today. With five games left, if we can play like this to close out the season, we can go 4-1 at the least or 5-0 with some good play.

Fun game to watch in spite of the officiating. Not good at all.

The first Texas field goal of the fourth quarter came with 57 seconds left in the game. They went over nine minutes into the fourth quarter with their only points being two free throws.

Glad to see Lang miss the two free throws that she got by fouling Gabbi. The two officials saw it differently. Fact, Lang stepped into Gabbi and extended her forearm. It was a moving screen. The dominate official got it wrong, and Lang shot free throws.

Edit: If you will remember, Texas did not score in the third quarter against Arkansas-Little Rock.

In Austin, our starting guards were 7 of 36 from the field (Maddie, Peyton, Gioya, Gabbi). In Norman, they were 11 of 27 with six threes. Texas didn't shoot fifty percent today.

We tend to fight back this year. We dominated the fourth quarter. I thought that some of the Texas players looked tired. Boyette and Lang were 2 of 15 from the field, and I thought they looked awkward, tired at the end. McCarty seemed to be the only Texas player who came to play.

Fourth quarter from the field:

Peyton three pointer
Kay Kay layup
Maddie three pointer
Vivi layup
Vivi layup
Gioya jumper
-----Vivi 2 free throws
Gioya layup
Gabbi jumper
-----Maddie 2 free throws
-----Vivi free throw
-----Gioya two free throws
-----Peyton 2 free throw
-----Kay Kay free throw
-----Maddie free throw

Notice that everyone contributed at least one field goal. No one person went wild.

Always a big win in the Red River Showdown. Karen has more athletic kids on the way Kim for kid Texas is better on paper in the 2016 recruits but that prob applies to the kids on the floor today. Goes to show it takes way more than just talent to win this deep in the season. 17 and 18 will be important for OU to get some game changing kids tough kids that know how to win will get OU back to a final 4

We were down 49-43. That's a 31-7 run. Back in my day we called that getting walked on.
