I know there's much more important things going on with the wildfires in LA to be concerned about a basketball game... But anybody heard if the game Friday is in jeopardy?

I wondered the same thing last night as I watched the news about the wildfires. It's awful in LA now.

The game is to be played in the Staples Center where the Clippers play. Technically it's a neutral site. I know they played an NBA game there on Wednesday night, so it must not be close to the fires. The UCLA campus was closed today (Thursday) but USC was open.

Correct. I'm definitely not a geography expert when it comes to LA, but Staples must be a safe distance from the fires, at least for now. And the OU basketball Twitter account indicates that they are California bound, so looks like everything is on schedule.

Staples is about 15 miles from Pauley Pavilion on UCLA campus. UCLA campus isn't far from one of the fire areas north of Brentwood, maybe the cause for the cancellation. Staples would be much further away in opposite direction from any of the fires.

As an aside, the Rose Bowl is also quite far from any current dangerous area.

One thing that downtown LA has working for it is the land is flat and not rolling hills which is what goes up under flame the easiest. Due to that topography, the rolling hills has land which cannot be fully utilized, such as in the Beverly Hills (Brentwood)area, which then has many open spots with vegetation to burn.
