The game will be Sunday at 3pm central time and will be televised by CBS.

And it has the potential to be one of the most interesting, hard fought, best games OU has had in quite some time!

The network is the CBS Sports Network...cable channel 717 for those on Cox in the OKC area.

If we beat Louisville or even play them really close, it will send a message to the Big 12 we are the team to beat. I think it would also help our recruiting as elite players generally want to play for top teams. If we get blown out by 20, it will tell other conference teams we are very beatable.

Louisville is not the same team as last year. Shoni Schimmel has now moved to the shooting guard to start the year instead of the later half... they also have Asia Taylor who completes Sara Hammond well.

It probably helps them to move Shoni off the point. She plays pretty wild and therefore is inconsistent.

+1. We could be seen as inconsistent last year as well. It wouldn't matter, because this year is a different team.

Tennessee 27 North Carolina 24
Connecticut 19 Stanford 21
Texas State 29 Texas 23
Ohio State 26 West Virginia 22

We may be the only area in which this is being called this close.

Louisville is all over the place. They beat good teams and lose to whatevers. This is last year's schedule:
http://www.gocards.com/sports/w-baskbl/stats/2012-2013/teamstat.html

They lost to Colorado. They lost at home to USF. Notre Dame absolutely killed them twice. Then, they run to the finals. I don't think they have any consistency. They can be really, really, really good----or not.

USF wasn't a bad team. They beat Texas Tech in Lubbock during the NCAA's and almost beat California too. I seem to remember them also taking Notre Dame to overtime last year.

I think Louisville is definitely going to be a tough matchup. Many teams can be inconsistent, but let's not forget that they did beat Tennessee after we lost to them in the NCAA's last year. And they did beat Baylor, as controversial as the refereeing was - they still did what no other team had done in two years (Beat Baylor, with both Sims and Griner in the lineup).

We are definitely going to have to hit some 3's. Schimmel and Slaughter are streaky shooters with deep range, so we will have to do a good job defensively on them.

I also that Bria Smith may be too quick for Morgan to guard (especially if she isn't 100%), so I would expect Gioya to draw her as a defensive assignment.

If we can make outside shots and REBOUND, it should be a good game!

Very good post! Smith will be a difficult matchup for Morgan. It will be interesting to see what Sherri does. We certainly need for this to be the game where Kornet breaks out of her shooting slump. Sharane too. The good thing about Sharane is, if her shots aren't falling she can still drive and score or get fouled.

At this point I think we are a little better than last year.

Nicole is definitely better; appears to have stronger hands; if they would just stop throwing those infernal bounce passes to her. A 6-6 center and they are giving her passes at her shins.

Morgan is playing a little out of control. Injuries appear to have her a little out of sync.

Ellenberg clearly a better all-around player. A major plus.

Kornet a little better but still seems to not quite be comfortable in the offense. I think she is a good outside shooter but she doesn't get very many good outside shots. Some of her shots are way too far out. There is just a point where a good three point shooter gets the ball in the flow of the offense just behind the arc and is in a good shooting position when the ball comes to them and gets the shot off in rhythm. Kornet is not quite there.

Campbell still hasn't had her usual good game but still a battler who helps the team. Needs to get her treys falling to round out the game. The new rules should help her the way she goes to the hoop.

KayKay is the biggest improvement. She and Griffin make a great tandem with 9 fouls to give and seem to be effective when playing together. Her free throw shooting a definite improvement and she has really developed a solid offensive game around the hoop. Defense and rebounding comparable to what McFarland gave us last year.

Carter a definite plus. Still hasn't found her offensive game yet but still finds ways to score. Liked her drive and pullup jumpers. Just needs to find her way in the flow of the offense and start hitting her treys. Will come with experience. Reminds me of Buddy Hield the way she seems to be where the action is and the intensity of her game.

We are still basically a 7 deep team. Edwards got meaningful minutes only because of Morgan's injuries and Portia didn't show much in the approximately 10 minutes she got. Sherri has the talent this year to go 9-10 deep but she has to use players like Edwards, Wyatt and Kellogg in meaningful games to have them ready to contribute in later meaningful games. She just has difficulty using anyone beyond her core players in the tough games. We are going to need Wyatt's outside shooting and Kellogs strength in the middle in some critical games.

Louisville appears to be an 8 deep team. So not too big a disadvantage.

SoonerinNC, I think your analysis is right on the money as usual. Really enjoyed your post.

I don't know that Sherri will go to Kellogg and Wyatt against Louisville, but it will probably have to happen sometime. Portia just gets lost, and we may end up needing Derica's shooting.

Louisville is pretty solid on an eight-deep rotation. You really don't know which player is likely to be the star tonight. They have only shot well from three point range once this year, and Slaughter was good that night. They've been quiet from there the other two nights. But, they shot 57% against LSU. They usually have two or three of their eight have good nights, but not all at the same time. That's usually enough.

We will have to play really well, and it wouldn't hurt if we could hit from outside. Thus far, it's been pretty much Aaryn or nothing. It would really help if Hook, Kornet, or Sharane would find the range. This is a really good team, and it is mostly experienced: three seniors, three juniors in prominent roles. The Schimmels are seniors and juniors already.

Louisville has a weakness: 53 of 89 from the free throw line. That's 59.55%!!! That is the only weakness. Don't let Bria beat you.
