OU vs TCU 11am cst. ESPN2

Late to the thread, but the second half was the most solid we've played probably since December. I thought Doolittle was outstanding and Manek, after a rough first half played much better in the second. On another note, I am the first one to come in the game thread and criticize the officiating, but today I thought it was very solid.

Did Calixte play at all in the second half?

Wow. I didn’t think they’d win today. Great job by coaches and players to stop an awful losing streak. This was a big win against a good team. Now we must win against texas and wvu.

No, Calixte didn't get off the bench in the second half. Benching someone is every bit as clear a message as yelling and screaming. And shows that Lon is by no means soft.

Well, just finished watching the game (had to DVR it).

So I guess LK coached well today??

It's simple guys....we shot 43% from the 3 pt line today and our opponent shot in the 20's. That scenario had been flip flopped the ast SEVERAL games!! LK is the same coach he was last week...players just made plays!!!

Having just said all that...I did find myself irritated with Miles launching garbage up late in the game!! Early in the year...he was practically automatic from the FT line...that hasn't been the case in conference play. And even though he actually shotabout 40% from3pt line last uear...I have NO confidence in his outside shot. I was wondering why LK didn't put either isomers or Calixte in...even though Calixte had a couple of bad TO's!

Let's build on this now!!! Doolittle and Manek play well together...very good passing big men!!

Calixte and Reynolds are Not Bid-12 caliber and have showed that the last 10 games. I guess that’s all we have though.

On another topic, Manek is shooting about 80% from 3 when he is set and Not moving. When he is fading or moving etc he is about 10%. Hopefully he will understand that and wait for the appropriate shot going forward.

Good win for the good guys today. There is still work to do. Hopefully we can win 3 or 4 down the stretch.

It was a really weird game.... TCU didn't seem like they had any talent out there. Of course they didn't have their best player. Would be like OU not having Christian James or Brady Manek today.

But at the end of the day I guess it doesn't matter what condition the team you beat was in.

Who are you taking about ??

Kuoat Noi.... Averages 15 per game and had 30 against OU last time. He was out with an ankle injury.

He's a great shooter but definitely not their best player. I like how many people are discounting the win because of their injury or poor play. Remember, we have been without our starting center for most of the season, but no one mentions how that affects us.

Good point. A healthy Jumani gives us at least two more wins.

Kinda like this team not having a fully healthy McNease. This team is also a/o a couple of players that NO ONE thought would've gone after last season, before the season last year began (Trae Young & McGusty)

Today's game just showed what the outcome of some of these recent games COULD have been if we actually shot the ball anywhere close to where we're capable of...AND our opponent NOT having shooting nights from 3 land higher than their season average!!!

Our biggest issue has been our inability to hit open shots during conference play...it's a SIMPLE game when you make shots!! LK was a genius today!! But he was clueless over the last 2-3 weeks, right?

It's simple, if we can shoot like this..or at least as well as our opponents...we'll be fine. The influx of talent we are about to get will be HUGE! It wouldn't matter who was coaching this team...if they shoot in the 20% range from 3....they aren't gonna win a lot of games in the Big 12!

Today's game showed how thin the line between winning and losing can be. We didn't play perfect today, by any means, but we hit shots. A number of our losses could have turned out the way today's' game did, if we'd just hit our open shots at a higher rate.

I'm proud of the guys today -- it was a very nice victory in a must-win situation. And they kept holding off TCU in the second half, despite numerous mini-comebacks. They'd get within four or five points and the Sooners would respond and widen the lead again.

In fairness, I've mentioned it a few times but it gets glossed over in all the "Lon can't coach" and "our assistants suck" and "these players aren't D1 players" posts.

It's hurt us, big time, and is at least a partial reason why James, Manek, Reynolds, and Calixte are shooting below their career percentages from 3.

Manek has inside skills as well. He showed some ability to score down low and is a good passer out of the post as well.

Some. Not the guy you want posting inside though. But good at moving inside to get the shot or pass.

True, you have made that point and it's a very good one. Being able to play inside out is huge, plus offensive boards are a great way to get open threes. Even without being a great scorer, Muni at 100 percent gives us those things.

Disagree. Iowa St. puts Jacobson on the low post and often works through him & Manek is better than he is. Manek can score over smaller guys who often guard him bc he plays so often on the perimeter. He's also a good passer so, when double-teamed, he can find cutters and open shooters.

IMO, the team needs to use him more than they do. Put him on the low bl9ck & work through him and use him for pick-&-rolls & pick-&-pops on the perimeter. They can also put him at the high post for a jumper or have him drop it down to Doolittle underneath. He should probably touch the ball on nearly every offensive possession with him in different spots & not just hanging around the perimeter waiting for a standing 3 pointer.

We may not be making the same comparison but if we are I will just agree to disagree. Jacobson has better post play than Manek and Jacobson is not great, more of a garbage guy. Manek is good at cutting to the bucket (much improved from last year) but you don’t want him playing as a post unless it is like yesterday when he was getting about 8 inches. That is not going to happen often.

I am talking about our ability to consistently ( or even inconsistently) post a guy to give us some semblance of an inside-out game. I was hoping Muni could give us some of that this year but Doo is the only one close and based on his size we have to get him the ball at a high post and draw a double for the kick out, take his guy to the hole, or shoot the 15-17 footers.

It is tough to run an offense without that unless you have athletes like ISU has.
