OU vs UTSA 7PM FSOK

Re: UTSA game Thur!

Nice to see the sunshiners pre-whining about things before the game.. We are in mid-season form already

Re: UTSA game Thur!

Reeves deserved a lot of criticism last year. Very inefficient player and fans were disappointed that an alleged great shooter was shooting terrible for most of the season

Re: UTSA game Thur!

He was definitely inefficient last year and his decision making was questionable at times ... and he deserved criticism.

But if you weren't happy that he absolutely plays his ass off for the University of Oklahoma every second he's on the floor and seems to be a tremendous teammate on the floor ... then you're never going to be happy with college basketball. Even the best players are flawed.

This year, he'll put up all big 12 numbers this year, defend his butt off, share the basketball and pump up his teammates, frustrate opposing players and coaches ... but if he shoots 32% from three point range, he'll be a bust in everyone's eyes.

Shoot, we have a huge contingent that hates Brady Manek, and he's a career 37% 3 point shooter with an effective FG% of 57% for his career who doesn't turn it over, doesn't get himself in foul trouble, rebounds well, and defends everybody we ask him to, from small guards to Azabuike.

Sure, he throws a hissy fit every now and then. Who doesn't?

Manek was the best player on the team last year by advanced stats and i'm sure he will be again

Re: UTSA game Thur!

If Reaves played for another Big 12 team, Sooner fans would absolutely hate him for the way he plays. He was difficult to pull for last season. Hopefully this year he has changed.

The only thing that he will want to change is shooting %.

All over intangibles will still be there!

this is 100% correct .... i expect him to be around 38% from 3 or above . which will also put him above 40% from the field ..

he is one of the very best players in the big 12

Which player on last year's team was perfect, or even close to it? None, of course, but somehow most of them rarely if ever came in for heated criticism. It was all about Reaves (as it's all about some player or other almost every season).

And it is simply unfair to rail against an individual's players faults, while ignoring those faults in other players or, worse, ignoring that player's other notable contributions to the team.

Last season, Reaves ranked:

--tied for 1st in games played
--first in minutes per game
--2nd in points per game (just 1 point behind Doo)
--3rd in rebounds per game
--1st in assists per game
--2nd in steals per game (just .3 behind Doo)
--1st in free throw percentage, by more than 5 percentage points

On the downside, his shooting numbers were low and he had too many turnovers (but he had only .4 more turnovers per game than Doo, and I don't recall anyone ragging on Doo about it).

Sorry, but it's hard to take seriously any poster who has consistently ragged on Reaves for his disappointing shooting numbers last season, but ignored the above contributions.

Yes, we all want Reaves to shoot better this year -- Austin wants it more than any of us, I feel confident in saying. But to focus only on his shortcomings and to ignore all the ways he excelled and the undeniably key role he played on last year's team is ... well, I'll just say it says more about the critic than the one being criticized.

Let's remember that Reaves made the preseason All Big 12 team this season, which suggests that D1 coaches recognize his talents and contributions, even if the "experts" here don't.

Wait, we're now asking our players to somehow appeal to opposing fanbases? I don't recall opposing fans having any great fondness for Blake Griffin, and that was fine by me.

I don't remember Blake getting technicals for flopping or being reprimanded for double throat slash celebrations.

Oh no get a couple techs because of emotions and passion.

Throat slash? He has to say sorry!

Opposing fans have been complaining about Blake flopping for years -- in college and the NBA (I don't think it's a particularly legitimate complaint, but let's not pretend they didn't complain about him plenty).

Re: UTSA game Thur!

He missed a lot of shots otherwise he did a whole lot of good things. There was not another guard helping the scoring load so more of those shots went to Austin by default. I think he proves his doubters wrong this season. He potentially is 1st team B12.

Yes, it is. I’m just glad we’re going to play this game before we have to start the Big 12 portion of our season against Tech.

Have you found a way to watch the game, Sky?
