OU vs UTSA 7PM FSOK

Y’ALL. Color me impressed! I was fully expecting us to be (understandably) rustier than UTSA and have a rough shooting night but pull out a 10-15 point win based on talent alone, but I was wrong. That was a well-balanced beat down.

Kuath is different — he is a more confident player. And a reliable center who can give us roughly 8 pts and 8 boards a night is the piece that this team is missing going into the season. Hopefully he can be that guy. His assertiveness tonight makes me hopeful.

This team should be the best outside shooting team we’ve had since ‘16 by a long shot.

I think Kuath might be who we all wanted or thought Lattin would be.

He looked good, no question. But it’s always dicey jumping to conclusions from one game. Remember, he had a huge game late last December against an overmatched opponent. I think it always takes several games to really get a feel for what teams and individual players will be in a given season. But definitely lots to be pleased with from Kuath and several others tonight!!

Reaves only 1 TO playing PG for 21 min is a huge huge stat ..

Harmon with 0 TO is another huge stat ..

Haven't read all the comments yet, but wow, what a performance by the team. Looked awesome.

No doubt about it, 1 turnover against any opponent is an amazing stat for our point guards!

Here’s another stat that may surprise you. It did me. True freshman, Trey Phipps, led the team in assists with five. He had two turnovers, but he scored 12 points, had 5 assists and a steal in only 19 minutes.

As someone pointed out earlier, he obviously has a green light to fire away when he’s open. He even took one three from TY range last night. He missed, but his confidence in taking that shot said a lot about what Lon wants him to do when he’s on the floor. He’s got a sweet stroke. Every shot he took looked like it was going in. More importantly, he believes they will.

Clearly, I was impressed with Trey. Anyone who thinks he’s not going to help us this season needs to take a closer look at his game. And, yes I know our opponent was UTSA. But a player who can score from anywhere on the floor will always be an asset. He can defend, too. He’s a heady player who works hard at getting and keeping good position.

I’ll tap the brakes for now. Just thought our baby faced freshman deserved special recognition for a solid performance in his first collegiate game.

Phipps also looked very quick for a shooting guard. He will play.

We seem to have more depth but it always seems that way against mid-major teams.

Inside weakness is my number 1 lookout.

Harmon looked much improved but again he went wild against mid majors last year and then couldn't carry it through against the Big 12 teams. Still I thought he looked better, particularly his shooting from the outside.

thanks! I'm paying a monthly fee on a Tivo and until that contract runs out, I don't want to cut my cable, but long-term I'm open to that switch.

So I take it that, if I signed on for a free trial on Youtube TV, that wouldn't gain me access to those two games, since the Fox sports channels are on a higher tier, right?

Yes, that's correct. But you can also sign on for a free seven-day trial for the youtube tv sports plus package, which gives you the free Fox College Sports channels (and several other sports channels) in addition to the 85 other free channels you receive with the regular free youtube tv trial.

By the way, I watched last night's game on one of the FCS channels. It was the OU broadcast, same one as shown by FSOK/FSSW, with Chad McKee and Brendon Manser.

Phipps looked better than expected, especially athletically. He should be a nice 4 year player. He played more than I expected.

Reaves looked really good. His defense was fantastic, and I think he is the point guard when Harmon is sitting (Might have a shot at the NBA).

Manek, obviously had an amazing game shooting but I'm a little concerned with his weight. I think he gained too much. He runs heavy footed and would sit when the rest of the team was standing or warming up.

Harmon, most improved?

Alondes missed some easy shots.

Kur, surprisingly was really good at Center. Hope it continues

Garang, probably needs to be replaced with Hill.

Jalen Hill, there is not a guy that works harder on the boards than him. Love his game.

Gibson, was decent adds a lot of depth.

Not sure if OU has a ton of bigs depth, but it will be fun to watch. Obviously, this is a knee jerk reaction and a very small sample size.

I’m not worried about manek’s weight. He’ll lose 10 lbs during the season, and the increased ability to finish in traffic and not get pushed around by bigs will help his endurance.

Didn’t impact his athleticism either ... he got up to block two shots and challenged a number of others.

I think Williams looks like the odd man out. If harkless plays, and Vic can defend the perimeter, then Vic, hill, and harkless will push him down the lineup. Gibson looked a little lost, but he really defends well and didn’t make any dumb mistakes.

I was really hoping to see big Rick. I know he's likely not going to be a contributor of us this year, but I was hoping to see him play. Is he our token big man that we cheer to enter the last 2 minutes of blowouts or is he a guy that could give us 5 minutes a game.

Manek seems to get winded as has been the case since he stepped on the court as a freshmen. The coach is aware of this and will get him the rest he needs.

The 3 pt attempt by Alondes was a bit painful to watch. He still needs to feel it in practice and bring the same feel to the game.

Kur adds electricity to the lineup when he's on the court, something which has been lacking over the years.

Gibson started but was pulled rather quickly. Not sure if it was due to a 2nd foul call.

Covid protocol kept him out last night but available this weekend.

Didn't get to see any of the game, but I did record it and will watch later tonight or tomorrow morning. From the comments, it sounds like Reaves played a smart, veteran type game. Obviously Brady and Harmon went off, but was also pleasantly surprised to see Phipps fill up the box score....I wasn't expecting that. I look forward to finally getting the opportunity to sit down and watch this one.

Phipps also played pretty good defense. He and Kur were the surprises of the game.
