Overseas games on TV

Incentive for the University!!!?? The very idea that OU admins would need more of an incentive to do everything they can to showcase our players and coaches pisses me off! The realization that you may be right intensifies my anger!

This is all too typical of basketball being shoved to the side to make more room for football! Why are some of you pretending to be surprised? There is nothing new to see here, folks! Basketball fans have been victims of disappointments like this for as long as I can remember. And, you wonder why OU is thought to be a football only school?

Don’t get me wrong, I love OU football! I can’t wait for the season to start! But I’m not going to pretend that I was shocked when basketball got shoved to the side, again! I’m accustomed to it, and you should be too by now!

I'm surprised because this was actually a step backward. The last time the Sooners made an international trip to play exhibition games, we got to see those games (streamed in rather amateurish fashion, admittedly, but we saw them). So I was expecting the same coverage at a minimum and hoped for even better.

Instead the coverage was worse than several years ago.

I bet there's folks in the athletic department these days that would much rather be pushing low quality bball game video instead of "answering" questions about the Gundy situation non-stop.

This is a misstep, though. Sky and others are right. Visibility is huge in growing a brand, and we all know the basketball team needs better brand value. You can't complain about fans tuning out for 9 months of the year if you give them nothing to rune into. Streaming is cheap these days, even if it doesn't bring in tons of fans, the cost is low and you make yourself look minor league by not offering it in 2022.

You’re both right! While the way this was handled came as no surprise to me, I can’t help but be disappointed for the players and our coaches!

We may never know how they feel, but this can’t possibly be viewed as an all-in gesture of support from Joe C and the athletic department! Shame on you, Joe C!

You have ESPN+ contract. Maybe this came up before that deal was signed. But you would think you could have at least studio guys in OK and have even low quality work remotely to do those games. I get not sending people to Europe to do any of it but come on. Could have easily put these on ESPN+ to have it at the start of that contract.

While I agree Joe C. should’ve made sure it happened. I’m not so sure if Moser wanted it though, he seems closely guarded on the team.

No idea for sure, just a thought.

i think OU not releasing box scores plays into this being Moser's choice

Nothing about that fits into Moser’s MO. Porter is a promoter deluxe.

I have no idea who was responsible for the write ups after each game. But there was a marked difference in the coverage following the third game and the first two. A box score would have been nice, too, but I was pleased with the coverage on Soonersports.com.

It’s clear to me that OU basketball fans were shortchanged again. Somebody missed an opportunity to showcase an exciting team!

Hiding box scores seems silly to me, if it really was a coach's decision. But on the bright side, we look to have made serious progress on our roster through portal and HS recruiting, no embarrassing off season issues with players or coaches, so if not streaming some glorified scrimmages is our biggest complaint heading into the school year then I can live with that.

Who knows, maybe Moser had an epiphany at Normandy, has installed the Omaha Beach Memorial Motion Offense, and we're keeping it under wraps until we unleash it on an unsuspecting division 2 school at the exhibition game to start the season in November?

Agreed. I’m excited about this year’s team! It doesn’t bother me one bit to go out on a limb in saying this is an unusually deep team with quality depth to spare. The only question mark for me was if the competition we were playing was a fair test of the outcomes in each game?

But, judging by what I saw on the video blips and in evaluating the limited coverage, Porter’s biggest problem may be playing time to keep everyone happy! Keep in mind that Benny and Yaya weren’t available on this trip.

It’s going to be fun!

Joe Bamisile and C J Noland with 16 each (Noland 6-7 from the floor made 5 3's (which is not possible))
Cortes with 13 (also 6-7 from the floor 4 made 3's (which makes his stats impossible ))

Proves you’re a better mathematician than the guy who created this report! Lol

now that i look again CJ's stats are also impossible

lol

We can only hope they shoot that well for real! ;)

Seriously, though, this team has been impressive in all three games. They may not look that good against better competition. But there’s a lot to like about this team!

If anyone ever asks me for the example of 'making a mountain out of a mole hill' I'll direct them to this thread. smh

I take nothing away from the games themselves. From the few seconds of video posted on Twitter, I think the competition was probably no better than what you could find during open run at a good gym. I already felt like we upgraded talent across the board in the backcourt, and the main benefit from this tour was the extra practice that came with it. Hopefully that at least slightly speeds up the learning curve when the season starts.

Spot on. The most telling aspect of this tour was that the team still enjoys basketball, and nobody got hurt.

one of the things i took away from the clips is that Bamisile is a plus athlete ... which is what was advertised ..

Yes, the highlights of his time at GW had me convinced that he is a fantastic athlete. At the very least, he can jump out of the gym. I am confident that the freshmen are also quite a bit more athletic than Mo and Harkless.
