Just listened to his interview on 560 AM in Memphis. He was asked if he's "going to be the steward of this program next year and in the future" and here was the beginning of his reply:

"I want to be here. I plan on being here. I don't have any desire to leave."

Said all he's thinking about is next year. Says he loves the AD (RC Johnson) and the community.

"Things will all get worked out. There's no doubt about that. I'm excited for next season."

He didn't definitively close the door on not being at Memphis next year, but he doesn't seem like the scumbag type to come on the radio and talk up the program like he did and say what said if he's looking to leave. He's just playing the game.

Good... OU needs a guy with more than 20 months of experience on the job.

Did Josh mention the bedtime story his mom read to him last night?

Did he sleep with his binky?

In that situation, what is he supposed to say? I want out? If I don't get paid, I'm outta here? It would put him in an awful position if he said those type things. He said what he had to say. period.
I'm not saying he's leaving or staying, but he was on the home town station. That's what he has to say. whether it's true or not.

Re: Pastner was just on the radio in Memphis

1.) Johnny Jones has been to more NCAA Tournaments than Pastner.

2.) Jones is the only coach in the history of UNT basketball to go to more than one NCAA Tournament. That tells you a little about the program he is currently winning at.

3.) Pastner was 22 years old when Jones became a head coach.

5.) Jones has had 6 straight 20+ win seasons at NORTH TEXAS.

6.) Pastner took over a well-oiled-machine at Memphis, and took them to the NIT in his first year and upset UTEP to make the NCAA Tournament this year. They were actually worse (10-6 in CUSA) this year but upset a better team in the conference tournament, otherwise it would be two NIT's in a row for Pastner.

7.) UNT is one of only 28 teams in the country to win at least 20 games in each of the last 6 seasons.

8.) His teams have led the nation in free throws made for the past 3 years.

Pastner doesnt have enough track record yet... I know he took over one of the most successful programs in the country and put two NIT quality teams on the floor, going 10-6 in a league that prior to him nobody even belonged on the court with.

If he's so great, why have they slumped since he took over? Why in 2 years are they getting worse and worse since Calipari left? They werent even a very good C-USA team last season.

This is the only part I really disagree with. Calipari gutted Memphis and left serious sanctions, when he left. Players transferred and decommitted. That's why they didn't get a bigger name coach. Pastner cobbled together a fairly talented line-up and went 13-3.

If Jones is such a good coach, why is he still at north texas?

They still had the most talented team in the league and went to the NIT. The next year, he goes 10-6 with the most talented team in the league. You could make a good arguement for UTEP being more talented (certainly more experienced), but 10-6 is atrocious compared to what Memphis is used to recently and they got lucky to make the NCAA Tournament. They were an NIT quality team, regardless.

Why didn't LSU hire Jones over Johnson a few years back?

Because Trent Johnson was a much bigger name... Trent was probably the hottest coach in the country coming out of Nevada and then Stanford.

come on. Who isn't going to struggle when one of the best coaches leaves and takes all the talent with him?
