Man, for a coach whose expertise is supposed to reside with the position he played growing up, our PG play has been one of the most disappointing and god-awful aspects of this crappy season.

Re: Poiont Guard play

Nobody expects OU to be the worst team in the country.

:ez-roll:

First off, that has nothing to do with my post.

Secondly, so now we are the worst team in the country?:vitale
So the worst team in the country beat your beloved CU & ISU teams? :vitale

Bad teams can win games too...Auburn beat Florida State (who is guaranteed a NCAA bid) a week before FSU beat Duke.

Whats your point? You think we are the worst team in the country too?:ez-laugh:

I believe that on any given night, the 10 worst teams from the high-major conferences are interchangeable. Last night, OU looked like the worst team in America being blown out by Tech from the tip.

This is something i cant put on Capel...he cant get out there and do it for them...if there is little to no talent, you cant coach that...

I personally think he has put them in position to play well, they just cant perform...when a guy has problems dribbling it off his foot 2 or 3 times a game that should probably be a sign...

oh i didn't know that is what we were talking about. I didn't know that the "country" (i assume abd meant div 1 but who knows with him) only included the high major conferences

Re: Poiont Guard play

you didn't expect this?

Bad pg play?

No. Blair was thought to be a pretty solid option. He was solid at NT, where he played against D1 talent.

Newell was thought to be better too. All I heard about him was how he was flying under the radar, and would score from day 1.

That's where you went wrong then...

First of all, thinking a player at a low major could come in and be anything but a spot filler or second option at PG as a sophomore on a Major Division 1 team...he is basically Barry Honore at PG

and second, listening to any hype about any freshman recruit before anything has been proven...

If you want to get smart, we lost to Chaminade pretty badly early in the season and have gotten worse. That team last night looked like a bad pickup team in some random YMCA gym.

we haven't gotten worse. Last night was terrible. But even it isn't as embarrassing as losing to chaminade

Re: Poiont Guard play

Tech is almost as bad, and we lost by more and in an embarrassing display of effort. I was more frustrated and angry with this loss than with Chaminade AND it's at the end of the season where teams are supposed to have improved.

Tell me again why we have "little to no talent" at that position? Please give me something other than "TMG is a moron".

Aren't you the poster who warned us about TMG before he ever arrived in Norman?

If not, I apologize for getting you confused.

Yep, that was me. I watched him play quite a bit his Sr season at Madison and at the first game I attended, Tommy did not cross the mid-court line to the defensive end ONCE during the entire game. He also refused to speak with his teammates or coaches before the game or during timeouts. He just stood off to the side not listening to anyone.

The sad thing is that we had coaches at several of the games where he acted like that.

Wow. That's all I can say.

What would TMG have anything to do with my thought on us having little to no talent at the PG spot this year?

It is pretty obvious we are very limited at that position, any former player, coach or involved fan of basketball can see that...

We are running our team with a PG that started for a Low Major D1 team last year...has below average quickness as well as below average dribble skills...his positives are that he seems calm but lately when the offense breaks down a little he dribbles all over the place and puts up a desperate shot...

Newell is a Freshman that has below average dribbling skills and isnt very skilled in running an offense or being patient...Could be an excellent scorer, but is still learning how to play at the right speed...

Both of these guys are not starting point guards at this level at this time...not saying that they cant improve and someday be starters...but have been behind the 8-ball all year with them as point guards...that is pretty clear...

Capel cant just overnight make a player a better dribbler, or learn how to move their feet quicker...or learn the proper speed to play at...that comes from gametime and offseason work...which these guys have had a limited time at OU...

I think Capel did an excellent job with Austin Johnson as he grew as a Sooner, but we really havent had a point other than him that has been here more than a year to see them evolve as a player...
