Porter to.........Villanova???

nova fans probably hoping for upsets fom bryant or high point so they have a reason to go after phil martelli jr or cbertus’ boy alan huss. not many sexy candidates out there for them.

First of all, we would have had an excellent chance to win 20 in each of his last two seasons if not for the seasons being shortened. Second of all, Buddy Hield was a mediocre player for two seasons. It would be like crediting Porter’s success to Kobe Elvis on the roster and acting like he was a star. I LOVE Buddy, but let’s not pretend like he was a star, or even close to being a star, his first two years.

Also, we were never the last team in the field. Never especially close to it. And as to your final point, it’s like saying there is nothing that makes someone who hits .300 better than someone who hits .200 aside from one guy getting more hits than the other. Results matter. Lon made the tourney damn near all the time. Moser doesn’t. In fact, he makes it 1 out of every 7 years in his career.

Lon’s last year was 59% win percentage. He was not going to get to 20. Results do matter and Moser did something Lon couldn’t do after Buddy left.

The reality is the same program issues that plagued Lon his last few years are still live and well. The program has shark bite problems and it isn’t the coach.

Think WVU would welcome ol Bob Huggins back? Make him say he’s been to rehab and is a changed man? Feels like something they would do
Jarrod Calhoun makes a ton of sense since he was an assistant under Huggins and has done well at Utah State if they want a Huggins like hire.

disagree. it most definitely IS the coach.

Buddy Hield as a sophomore may not have been a star, but mediocre? Really?!

"A second-team All-Big 12 selection ... Started all 33 games ... Led team and ranked 10th in Big 12 with his 16.5 points per game ... Also averaged 4.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 steals (ranked second in league) in team-high 32.1 minutes a contest ... Shot .445 from the field, .386 from 3-point range (ranked sixth in conference) and .750 from the free throw line ... Made 90 3-pointers (sixth most in single-season school history)"

Yes because as we all know, Buddy was on all those teams Lon took to the tourney over the years. Even that Florida team back in the day. Clearly his entire career was built off one player.

Yup, where Lon had the program when he retired is not a place to be. If your ceiling each year is the 8-9 game, then more often than not, you're not going to make the tournament. It has been almost 10 years since we've had a team where the expectation was to make the second weekend of the tournament. It appears Porter will get another season (unless he leaves), it is now up to Joe C to decide to see if he wants to go all in with NIL and try to change the trajectory of the program. Pay for a roster where the expectation is the sweet 16. If not, it will be more of the same.

OU's average KenPom rank in the 10 seasons with Lon: 42.7
OU's average KenPom rank in the 4 seasons with Porter: 42

moser had a chance to build something....he failed.
no one is going to throw more nil money at moser.....you would probably have to have a kentucky type budget just to get a couple more wins.

also...the arena didn't cost us a single win this year.
Nobody has a chance to build much with OU because there is not much investment here in any way. NIL investment needs to be at least around 5-6 million to even be middle of the road in the SEC. Why are we going to expect results with money that would be near the bottom of the Big 12?

because 6 ouhoops experts says so!

5-6 above the rev share... its not going to end until a salary cap is in place. even then... won't help much!

Could you please stop calling an all Big 12 player who scored 16.5 PPG mediocre? You keep saying this and it keeps getting debunked. Comparing him to Kobe Elvis is all sorts of desperate. Just give it up.

And yes, he wasn't a star his freshman year...when we were a 10 seed and got immediately bounced.

His Soph year would put his score as the best player on our team this year...just so we are clear.

A salary cap legally can't happen until the players unionize, which will take a long time.

And that won't stop NIL. They will just be endorsements. Can't cap those.

Lol, that’s a take. Not sure I’d call soph BH mediocre but looking forward to the walk back or criteria explanation.

He certainly wasn’t the best player in CBB in his sophomore year I guess lol.

Lon's MO was rather clear throughout his head coaching career. He takes over a program that's down, gets them to a high level for a brief period of time, then cannot sustain it. He then moves on to the next program, rinse and repeat. At OU, he chose to retire there, and to his credit, the program did not fall off a cliff, but the peaking process did not change. Regardless, Lon was always a class act. He defined integrity, and YES, he WON at every stop. No one is comparing Lon to Porter (or should).

Im here 315 days out of 365 day lil homie... you've been on the board less than a year.
Sit this one out
Yes and in less than a year I show better instincts than you do. A vaunted HS girls bball coach. Back in your cave you go.
