Porter to.........Villanova???

People are just ridiculous. Our program is better than West Virginia, and they managed to hire a really good coach 12 months ago. And Drake identified and hired yet another really good coach when Devries went to WVA. Utah State has now made the tourney for three straight years under three different coaches, despite not playing in a power conference or having a basketball history worth shouting about. But people like Indy are suggesting we will have to settle for a YMCA coach whenever the Moser era ends.

Cool. So you'd be cool with hiring a D2 coach to take the reins?

Utah St. and Drake (and West Virginia) don't have to compete in the SEC every year.

Absolutely and hopefully the next diamond in the rough coach can find someone better than sophomore Buddy Hield for production purposes.

Fingers crossed! 7.5 mil-ish we get paid. We settle for something less than that, but hopefully close.

Then we contact hoiberg, mccollum, whoever else. Ugh. make it happen. Beat UCONN bab

False reality.

I think hoiberg would consider OU. While he's a nebbish alum,
Hoiberg went to Iowa ST

Dude just had back-to-back 20-win seasons in the toughest conferences in the country. And we want to get rid of him. Absolute idiocy.

well that's one way of looking at it i guess. but at least you could do is be honest. 6 wins in the toughest conference in the country....but none against the top 7 teams. and losses to 2 of the worst.
i think it would be best if moser leaves on his own. he's not going to get fired this year.

How many years has CW competed in the SEC? Does that explain why he has sucked almost his entire career within his own league? I guess I forgot that the MVC of the 2000s and 2010s was pretty much like the ACC and Big East of the 80s and 90s.

All but one of the losses this year were to Top-25 teams. And there were multiple Top-25 wins. With the roster we have - thanks to the lack of NIL - I'm not sure what people want. Miracle workers, I guess.

OU is a top 25 program historically. As us diehards know.

The problem is Joe C. He needs to retire, or he needs to hire some kind of basketball AD/GM, and become hands-off when it comes to hoops.

His hires have been mostly awful (and his Moser extension even worse). Lon Kruger was fine but that was like hiring a Great Value coach at the time (aged, his time at UNLV was sort of stalling a bit, OU needed stabilizing). As we know, Buddy became an all-timer (and Lon gets the credit). Then Joe C let Lon stay too long. In reality, after the '16-17 season, Lon should have been forced to retire. His ending sort of led to Moser's rough beginning (fuggin' Cortes & Noland were recruits, lol)

Anyway

My biggest issue isn't losing Moser....I would 1000000000% go to his house and help load the moving truck. For free.

My biggest issue is what will change?

If Joe C is the AD, controlling OU MBB, NIL/rev share will be short-changed, and it's more likely that he'll hire another mediocre HC.

and don't blow 20pt second half leads.

Bold are the years he was above .500 in conference play.
Italicized are the years with Cameron Krutwig.
Just for fun, I went back and pulled the 10 years of Kruger at OU.....Guess which years Buddy was here and then compare the rest of those years to what Porter has done at OU....Everyone keeps points to Porter's record at OU and then jumps to making the tournament. OU clearly got lucky some of those year

losses to 2 of the worst.
Two of the worst? In a league that 14 teams made the NCAA tournament. The LSU loss was a terrible loss for sure but the 11 others were to what appear to be in the top 68 teams in the country.

look at florida they just went and hired a Very good BBall coach from san fransisco ..

so i 100% agree ..
Yea it's insane to me how caught up people get in where someone is from. Schools constantly make the mistake of chasing the big names and making a splash. Find the right coach, period. I don't care about winning press conferences.

There are exactly ZERO head coaches in the country that don't lose games they should win.

Also, what about winning games he's not supposed to win. Mizzou, Arizona, Michigan, Louisville, etc.

This all cuts both ways. And the expectations are ridiculous. I'm not happy with the six conference wins, and I don't let Porter completely off the hook. But until things change structurally, we're not doing better.

It’s more likely that that’s what will be interested in Oklahoma. If it is an up-and-comer like Jeff Capel was back in the day and they succeed a few years into their tenure at OU, they will most likely jump for a better job with the way the current support and administration are anyway.

Yeah, but will Joe C hire that kind of coach?

Will Wade
Bryan Hodgson

Those are the type of as*holes you need when you're short-changing things. Self-driven, roster assembling, blurring the edges types.

Or will Joe C go all safe and buttoned up?

I know Golden was cleared of the Title IX complaints (and they happened after he was hired at UF) but imagine anyone with that potential would never make it through Castiglione’s rolodex haha.
