Porter to.........Villanova???

The other element is similar to last cycle.

Moser’s job is safe now that he’s made the tournament. And in total fairness, he’s done a really good job in the final stretch of the season.

OU doesn’t prefer to pay the buyout. Like with Venables, it’s cheaper for OU to find a couple of extra dollars lying around to support MBB. Buying Moser out is the last resort. Was much more likely if they missed, obviously.

Basically

1a. Float name out there, hope another program takes the bait, especially if said program is basketball-first

1b. Float name out there, hope it gets you more resources from your current job if/when no one will hire you

Why did Kelvin stay so long then? Why did Lon? OU has had two hall of fame level coaches stay for a substantial amount of time. Then .500 Moser comes in and wants out immediately. I think this is more of an indictment on Moser.
Kelvin was looking immediately. I remember his name mentioned every year while I was in college. Back then, you had loyalty to your players. Today, is there any loyalty anywhere?

The minute Kelvin got a better program after him, he was gone. And many in our fan base rejoiced the day he left. There’s some nature revisionist history around these parts when it comes to Kelvin.

Yep. For 12 years, it was "Fire Calvin Simpson!" Even when he won big, he didn't play like Billy, so a lot of fans didn't warm up to him.

LK was a great coach for OU (better than Porter for sure) but imagine he was viewing it as a final stop before retiring especially especially post-Hield.

Was he better? The results without Buddy were not better.
Yeah, I am pretty solidly in the camp that 2016-2021 was better than PM’s tenure. LK had his faults (PM is certainly better in the conference tournament) and PM would do better pre-Alston IMO but I find it hard to make any case for LK’s last couple of years not being better.

Personally think OU’s ceiling in the current landscape and with the current AD is shooting for the bubble (8-11 seeds in my definition, 3/5 years making it into the tournament). LK’s late teams were typically “solidly in” while PM’s are very much in danger of being “first team out.”

16-17 was definitely worse than 22-23 but outside of the low point, LK had better results and way more competent (scheduling, late game situations)

LK retired in place but also didn’t get much support. So Villanova might look at it as a Final Four coach being, yet again (x3), being given no support by an AD that hires you and feels he has done his job.

It’s not the AD’s fault that ou hoops fans are the worst in the country. The fans have never supports this program the way it should be. Terrible donor support and no butts in the seats.

I would say it very much is. When you don't really promote the basketball program and you make it very clear that your priority is football and that is the sole focus of all your energy...... That's the AD.

Villanova can do better than Porter. Now if Northwestern opens...that's the job for Porter.

We have to remember that Porter's reputation nationally is much better than within Sooner Nation. He's the guy that took LOYOLA to the Final Four. That counts for a lot nationally.
His reputation was better four year ago. Not now. A lot of my friends who are fans of KU or other schools don’t think highly of him at all. My cousin last night, who had no idea what my thoughts of Moser are, referred to him as a mid major coach who isn’t cut out for this level.

were any of the rumors about kelvin looking around ever verified? or were they just message board/internet rumors?
same question regarding moser. it's all likely just internet hogwash.
i'm pretty sure kelvin would have stayed a long time had the administration had his back over the bs phone call garbage.
when a place like indiana comes calling...it's a pretty easy decision at that point when your current boss isn't there for you.
moser has too good of a contract to even think about leaving for a place like depaul. coaches just don't do that. not when u have 4 years left on a sweet contract.

What more do you think they should do to promote basketball? Keep in mind that the Thunder weren't in existence until 2008.

If we lose pm to nova, this season will be a 15 outta 10 success. Absolutely amazing. Hopefully we'd get the full buy out and we can reset. I hope we're not being punked but I think we obviously must be
