Porter to.........Villanova???

True. Never underestimate how influential assistants are on a staff. The impact of losing Lew Hill (RIP) and Steve Henson was huge. Just like the current staff for PM was much better than year 1.

Once the turnover happened with LK, he wasn’t the same and that’s when the downhill trend started. Of course losing 4 starters before the portal didn’t help either.
Ironically, Chris Crutchfield (who has killed it at Omaha this year) was one of the assistants in the last part of Lon's tenure. His name has been mentioned for our job if Porter indeed leaves.

I will be surprised if Porter leaves and don't think he is being fired. But, if he isn't the coach next year, what would you guys think about Carlin Hartman as coach. Currently, a florida assistant.

Why would he willing leave? He is getting paid far more than he is worth, is at less than zero risk of being fired, and won't be offered more than OU is already paying him (and probably lining up an extension to pay him a lot more).

And yet plenty of people wanted Kelvin and Lon gone. (I can’t really comment on the Tubbs situation due to my age).

lon needed to retire. his mo was to build a program and move on. once he hits a peak it's all downhill....just like after buddy left.....the program trended down.
kelvin hadn't hit his peak yet at ou....altho i'm not sure if he would have ever broke that talent ceiling at ou without the early phone calls.
too bad he wasn't a competent cheater like many other coaches around the country were back then.

People also wanted Tubbs gone after his second year (or so he said).

We will get to see whether PM will become a great coach or not .. because unless he leaves (and he is in the best bball conference) he is probably here for several more years.

Why are you so confident that he is “probably here for several more years?” I don’t see any evidence of that.

My son, a Northwestern alum, thinks that Collins will bolt if the money and length of contract are right. His son graduates from NW so lessens his ties
to the Chicago area.
