Porter to.........Villanova???

It feels like he sought Bob out to make excuses on video.

Yes, you need more NIL money to compete at this level.

But you also need to be MUCH better at retention factors that aren't just NIL-related (role, being liked, etc), portal evaluations, having a better portal plan, and selling your program.
Winning games.. I will never bend the knee to mr. Whiner's nil excuse when he has houston's starting PG and kentucky's best player and mccollum and still pulled a porter special.

And to be honest, I thought pm wasn't terrible tonight. Just sloppy/dumb at the end

Huh? The best roster he will have is a group of D-2 guys? You don’t think players will be interested in playing for him after seeing what he did with this group?
That can accomplish more than this team at Drake? Absolutely not.

He may have more talent, but he won’t have a better team.

So many of these dudes just want to excuse the bull****. 4 years, 4 mostly bad coaching jobs, 3 missed tourneys, one early exit.

This kind of talk (below from Nowkhah) is so tiring. Moser has had 4 years at OU to figure out how to work within the constraints he has. We're still excusing it?

The reality is; Moser has won 56% of his games at OU, 38% in conference, and has lived life around the bubble (maybe that's his peak at OU?). That's not commendable. Nothing points to him getting better with more NIL. The best hope OU has, with Moser as HC, is finding someone else to be the "roster coach" (assembler, fundraiser, etc).

Pretty sure 0% of the board was saying that after last year.

I think Moore has a lingering injury. He just didn't look right at the end of the season. But he was huge early.

Did he even have a single dunk since his knee injury? There’s no doubt that he was playing hurt.

Drake had one tournament win since 1971 before Thursday, and they’ve had some good coaches in that time span.
Might that be an argument that this guy is the best and could do better than the program's avg? Especially since he just did that?

He's had one bad year. The second year. First year, they overperformed. Missed the tournament by one. Third year, they were better than expected, missed the tournament because of an historic number of bid stealers. This year, they essentially performed exactly where everyone thought they should. Nowhere near missing the tournament. Overall, a good year.

Has he overachieved in his four years? No. But he has done about what has been expected of him. And the limitations are real. And the limitations aren't going away when we get a new coach.

I don’t think Dari said anything incorrect though. It’s unrealistic to expect ou to outperform other programs who are paying much more to win. Even if ou gets an absolutely elite coach, there’s no way they will stay given the current investment. Ou donors need to put their money where their mouth is. It’s that simple.

Sounds like we could do better by having, IDK, a GM?!?

Just another way this job isn’t attractive RN

Problem is, I don't think OU has enough donors that care about basketball.

I think the funniest part is people will SCREECH about NIL. As if Porter didn’t have the starting PG for Houston, starting SF for Kentucky, a guard averaging 15 a night in Javian McCollum, then a great combo of Jalon Moore and Waldo Soares last year yet still found a way to miss the tournament. This dude is absolutely trash and should not be allowed to excuse his way out of every single shortcoming by blaming his so called “lack of funding”. He had a better roster than 90% of basketball teams just last year and underperformed severely. I’m tired of it.

That roster was NOT better than 90% of basketball teams. It just wasn't.

We have NEVER had the money to buy a quality big. Wague has been the ceiling. Guard play hasn't ever been the problem. It's always been the lack of size that ends up killing us.

This year he might, but beyond that? It’ll be incredibly hard.

They’ll have to win the conference tournament almost every season and win as a lower seed in the NCAAs.

McCollum is a very good coach, but that’s a tough ask.

You will get absolute crickets to this post by the slobberers bc there is nothing to refute it. Or maybe they'll throw out some fans support excuse or bc the Lloyd nobles seats are orange, not actually crimson. It doesn't matter to them.

I'd respect them a lot more if they would own up to the hollowness of the nil excuse

It was genuinely a top 30 roster in the country. You can’t convince me otherwise. So much talent all over the place.
