I predict that he will shoot the ball like Osby did during Roe's last year next season for the Sooners. His shot looks pretty clean and I bet he will put a lot of work into it this offseason.

Hope so!!

If he could play a true power forward instead of center he'll be better than Osby by the time he's done.

I love Roe but Ryan will finish his career as a more productive player. He might finish his JR season as a better player than Roe was as a SR. The position he plays and match-ups will have something to say about that but what he accomplishes this offseason will have more. He is already a far better rebounder.

I hope you guys are correct but Osby was awfully good. He was truly a go to player. I am not sure Spangler will ever be that offensively.

I also think some may be selling Osby's rebounding short. Spangler certainly puts up better numbers (and is a great rebounder) but Osby was asked to do so much more offensively that he did not have the same opportunity to hit the offensive glass as Spangler.

I don't consider Spangler a better rebounder because he grabs more. Like WT has stated, not totally accurately, the number of rebounds per game isn't always the best measure of how good a player is at that skill. Spangler is, fundamentally one of the best rebounders OU has ever had and one of the better in the country I've seen this past season. I would argue your point about Osby not getting more boards because of his offensive responsibilities by saying Spangler would have gotten more if not for his defensive responsibilities. Despite this, Spangler rebounds out of his area as good as anyone I've seen at OU in a long time (maybe Abercrombie?), has a lightening quick initial jump, and uses his body and elbows to block out and secure the ball like it should be done.

Could be wrong but Ryan has shown 0 signs of improving on a mid range jump shot. Lets not forget he sat out a year. Im sure he was working on his offensive game, its not like he was working on rebounding for a whole year.

Osby and even Mbaye's jumpshots were light years agead of Ryans. If he makes a few here and there i think its just a plus. I dont think he will ever be that go to post guy. Maybe one of the 3 guys we bring in or a transfer will be that center or pf that can knock down a midrange shot to go along with Ryans rebounding and nick collison like hustle, jmo.

I felt M'Baye had a poor jump shot. No touch at all. I was very disappointed in his shooting and ball handling.

I think he would have helped the team some this year but maybe not more than Clark and maybe not much more than Neal.

You have to think about whose minutes he would have taken.

As well as Cam Clark played, M'Baye may have come off the bench.

If M'baye had stayed he should have taken Spangler's spot in the lineup. No way Cam doesn't start this year. We will miss Cam more than people think next year.

Now that's just silly. SMH...

Agreed.

It's likely Cam would have gotten starter minutes from the bench, and Neal/Bennett would have played less.

The starting lineup would have looked like this with M'Baye

Woodard
Buddy
Clark
M'Baye
Spangler

Cousins would be our 6th man instead of Neal/Hornbeak with Booker getting some time also.

That bench would have been much stronger right there. I'm not sure we would have had Bennett on the roster or he wouldn't be playing any.

More like:
1 Woodard/Hornbeak
2 Cousins/Booker
3 Hield/Neal or Clark
4 M'Baye/Clark or Neal
5 Spangler/Bennett

That would work as well. You don't keep your best player on the bench.

Roe and Ryan were so awesome for us. A shame that they couldn't have played together last year... if only a certain ex-coach had recruited the Oklahoma native and Sooner fan

Clark and Hield were our best players last year. Woodard was our best point and Spangler was our best big man. There is no way those 4 shouldn't have started barring injury.
