Prep Spotlight: 6A-2A state tournament Preview

Since I've not seen him play, I'll not call you crazy. I WILL say this though...NO ONE else recruited the kid. He committed/signed early. You said, "He has gotten so much better since the summer..." but you wanted OU to just take a flyer on him?

They may end up regretting it, but let's not act like schools were lined up for his services...

Did OU not take a Flyer on Neal?? He was ranked MUCH lower than Spangler. Spangler had a great summer for Athletes First the only kid to have a better one was Josh Richardson from ESF. Arent Kids suppose to improve over time?? That's exactly what he did expanded his range, lost fat put on muscle. OU missed this kid idk what Capel was thinking. He stays in OU's backyard. Schools were knocking on his door he had 13 offers Colorado offered who is better than OU.

Colorado and Gonzaga offered him a scholarship. Two programs with better rosters than OU. If he wouldn't have signed, he would be one of the top 5 sought after recruits in the nation.

A big day yesterday and some teams and Seniors rose to the top. A few division one coaches took in the pod I went to, Stratford/Watonga and Talihina/Chouteau-Mazie. Stratford's Dalen Qualls had his usual big scoring game with 33pts, but it was a bank in three point shot by forward Tommy Lawson that propelled Stratford over a game Watonga team. Watonga was led by a very good senior, forward Jesse Brewer. They also had two other solid players in junior 5'9 point guard Javis Flynn and sophomore 6'1 guard Travis Hartfield.

In the second game, Talihina jumped on top early and put it in cruise control against an outmatched Choutea-Mazie. Jordan Eaglerod scored 10 early points with two three pointers, a layup and a thunderous dunk on the break. 6'5 forward Taggert Lockart finished the game with 19 points. The University of Central Arkansas was at the game to evaluate both Qualls and Lockart for scholarship offers. The Talihina Senior already has a scholarship offer from The University of Arkansas Little Rock.

Other Seniors who stepped up in a major way yesterday were El Reno's 6'2 sg Devante Moore against a talented Tulsa Central. Moore netted 33pts and 14pts in the fourth quarter. 6'2 cg Tim Smallwood singlehandedly steamrolled Okemah with 26pts and 6 3pt makes. Seth Heckart, in a losing effort netted 32pts as Woodward lost by two points to the heavily favored Douglass Trojans.

All three of these players are being highly sought after.

Ardmore loses by one.

Thanks a lot, Nino! Go get some ink for that, you moron.

At the end of the day this is very sad. How can we talk about this kid as a legit target for OU at this point?

We lost in the semis in 2000, my senior year, when we had Merrill "The Perrill" Andrews and DeShone Henderson. We were defeated by John Marshall, who I think featured five Liberty brothers and a pony-tailed dude named Eugene who played in Chuck Taylor's.

It was at the LNC, and I'll never forget it. :(

Eugene Chambers was his name (I think). He was bouncy as heck in those chucks! He ended up playing at OCU.

Like I said, I just know schools weren't lined up for his services. That says A LOT to me.

The kid committed in September. I haven't looked at a calendar in a while but that month is RIGHT AFTER the summer. Sounds like he made up his mind BEFORE anyone could evaluate his improvement.

You guys are reaching.

And he JUMPED on the GU offer. TOP 5???? C'mon.

The Daily Ardmoreite article made it sound like the second coming of the '72 Olympics vs. the Soviets. Apparently, Edison threw a desperation pass out of bounds, but they got a "do-over" and then got the call on that foul that cost them the game. I'm curious if anyone went to that game in person and can verify this.

This just can't be...:D

I May not have put it the right way, but easily one of the top sought after unsigned playersin the spring. PROBABLY a good idea to see the mid actually play before having such a strong opinion.

I'm not the one posting a STRONG opinion. I just lean towards taking the opinion of people who get PAID to have one - college coaches....and not many of them had a STRONG opinion of Spangler. Doesn't mean he won't turn into one, but history shows that kids that leave the state that are not highly recruited don't turn into superstars or even really good D1 players. It happens on occasion, but not often.

I'm not reaching it's been talked about on this board numerous times. Most Thought he was going to play Football in College, over the summer he made up his mind because he had a big summer so he chose Basketball. He had a huge summer is the best rated prospect in the state of oklahoma according to espn.com. Ryan is an OU FAN but he wasnt going to wait around for OU to decide oh you know what this kid is pretty good lets sign him after we cant get so and so. He committed he didnt sign two different things. He was waiting for a big time offer Gonzaga was that offer.

And that's fair. I've NEVER said he wasn't good. The good thing is, we'll get to see...

Not many College coaches had a strong opinion of Tyler Neal so whats ur point? Anytime you have a prospect like Spangler you have to offer him,he is in your backyard. No excuses, I will be shocked if Spangler didnt play or make some sort of impact for the Zags.

And Neal got a last second offer. I'm not sure what you are arguing. I believe Neal has a chance to be a good one, but it's not OBVIOUS that he will. He got sparing minutes on a below average team...

I'm arguing the point that the kid can play and that if We offered Neal who had NO HIGH MAJOR OFFERS Then we shouldve offered Spangler. Gonzaga is not a MID-MAJOR, Colorado is not a Mid-Major.

You have selective memory...ORU and TCU wanted Tyler Neal...not too much different than those two schools (I know, I know, Gonzaga in the last 10 years has been great)...

Oh, and you don't KNOW that he can play YET...there's been MANY players before that were thought to be mistakes and they didn't pan out...

OU has signed some real busts. The consensous is Spangler wouldnt be one of them.
