Prep Spotlight: 6A-2A state tournament Preview

OU has signed some real busts. The consensous is Spangler wouldnt be one of them.

If we wasted a scholarship on a guy like Hardrick that most could tell before he even stepped on campus wouldnt contribute, they why wouldnt we get one of the better players in the state that everyone i have heard from thinks he has a lot of upside?

I'd rather sign ten busts from Oklahoma than one bust from anywhere else.

Local kids should always be given the first look here at Oklahoma.

I'm really not arguing with you guys. I know you can't see that. I'm simply pointing out that NO ONE offered the kid and those guys get PAID to evaluate kids. It just doesn't make sense to disagree with their logic AS OF NOW since they have history to back up their position.

Hardrick was a strange decision indeed. I wouldn't use him as justification to sign every Oklahoma Super 5 player...

Quit saying NOBODY offered this kid Gonzaga offered who in the last 10 years is a better program than OU. Colorado offered another HIGH MAJOR. He had 13 Offers.Wasnt Taylor Thought to be a Mid-Major player? David Godbold? Cade Davis. You are commenting on a KID that A. YOU DONT KNOW WHAT HIS GAME IS and B. HAVE NEVER SEEN PLAY! I dont think he will be a bust but it will take time for him to adjust to the college game.It takes time for 17 18 year old players to mature,Example:Cade Davis.

I dont believe these so called experts because these so called experts said Harrison Barnes would be the best freshman since Carmelo Anthony. Then Barnes has a few bad games and he isnt good anymore. These So called experts didnt think much of Jimmer Frederete out of high school.

Back to the state tournament talk.

Tulsa Washington vs El Reno is the 5A final tomorrow.

Washington is the favorite, El Reno will have to hope that Moore has a big game to stay in it.

Tonight in 6A we have Union vs Midwest City

Then Edlam part 4. Santa Fe vs Memorial.

Memorial and MWC are the favorites.

I haven't seen Union play this season so I don't know if they have the backcourt to match up to MWC's but I think it will be a tough test for them. The Colbert twins are both talented and after losing to PC in the finals last years I know they are hungry and playing some of their best ball/

In Edlam who knows. Memorial has won 2 vs Santa Fe this year including last Friday but Santa Fe has defeated previously this year and have the talent to do it again.

The way that Memorial dominated Santa Fe defensively last week has me leaning toward selecting them at the moment. Gotta think that the Woodards and Obi are going to have big games tonight as well.

In the smaller classes.

2A: Milwood was upset by Preston. Milwood was the number 1 team in the state. I think Talihina has to be favorite there now.

4A: Ryan Spangler and Bridge Creek won a close one over Tecumseh to advance to the championship. One of Bridge Creek's guards hit a game winning 3. If Douglass wins like expected it should be fun to see how they handle Spangler.

Gonzaga is NOT a better program over the last 10 years (that's even considering the past 2).

Colorado is a HIGH MAJOR? One of the worst programs in the Big XII. They stink.

This would all be great if I'd EVER said anything bad about the kid. You sound like you're a little too close to the "situation" (almost butt-hurt). I hope the kid turns out to be a star...I really do.

BTW, since he won't be wearing crimson and cream, I A) COULDN'T CARE LESS ABOUT WHAT HIS GAME IS and B) NEVER SAID I DID.

Who said anything about so-called experts?

OVER THE LAST 10 SEASONS:

OKLAHOMA:
Final Four: 1
Elite 8: 3
Sweet 16: 3
NCAA Appearances: 6
Conference Championships: 1
Conference Tournament Championships: 2
Overall Record: 219-109 (.668 winning percentage)

GONZAGA:
Final Four: 0
Elite 8: 0
Sweet 16: 2
NCAA Appearances: 10
Conference Championships: 10
Conference Tournament Championships: 7
Overall Record: 263-66 (.799 winning percentage)

The answer lies in what you value more: NCAA Tournament success or championship hardware. We've had the better great teams, but they've been extraordinarily consistent.

I said Spangler was the real deal you felt the need to questioned that IDK why. You have never seen him play so you dont know how good he is,I've seen him play AAU ball against the top rated players. Iam not butt-hurt at all i care about Oklahoma the school and the state. I'm not close to the situation at ALL,not from Bridge Creek Never went to Bridge Creek. You were the one talking about evaluators aka experts. Those same evaluators said jimmer frederette wasnt good enough. I wished Ryan the best too i wish the best to any kid coming out of OKLAHOMA.

Gonzaga is Clearly been the more consisent program over the last 10 years. Has had more Players in the NBA than OU over the last 10 years most of them busts but still.

I know I'm getting old, but would you mind linking me to a SINGLE POST where I referred to EVALUATORS or EXPERTS???? I said COACHES.

Also, it's hard to compare GU's success to that of a BCS conference school as the competition they play against every night is usually superior to the schools like GU...which, oddly enough, is why they rarely make a deep run in the NCAA tourney...

I wasn't aware Jimmer was from Oklahoma.

Again, I hope the best for Ryan AND any Oklahoma kid, but it doesn't change the fact that RARELY has a kid been overlooked in state and gone on to some great D1 success. It's just a fact. Hopefully, Ryan does just that.

Colorado, TCU, Tulsa, Wichita State, ORU all offered Spangler.

And OU has definitely missed with some local kids, Josh Young and Noah Hartsock come to mind.

Jimmer Fredette is from upstate New York. BYU's tokie Okie is Noah Hartsock out of Bartlesville.

Didnt see a post with you talking about coaches? By guys i thought you meant evaluators.
I used Jimmer as an example of a kid getting overlooked pretty sure Cade and Taylor are examples of that too. Both had great careers at OU.

As for Oklahoma kids not doing good out of state what about Ekepe Udoh?
Amric Fields-Having a good year at TCU
Will Creekmore playing at Missouri State-11ppg and 6rpg
Josh Young had a great Career at Drake
Noah Hartsock BYU
Eric Frederick Florida International
Clent Stewart K-state had a solid career
Quincy Williams(Shelden Williams brother) solid career at North Texas
None of these guys were considered top recruits all were overlooked

Re-read that post you quoted..."I'm simply pointing out that NO ONE offered the kid and those guys get PAID to evaluate kids"

By referring to a guy "offering", one could only assume I'm referring to COACHES since they get "paid" to evaluate kids. Sorry for the confusion. I couldn't care any less about what James Hale thinks about a kid.

Cade and Taylor both got offered by OU...why include them? I thought we were talking about kids that OU didn't offer.

And EVERY ONE of those guys you listed probably wouldn't have done much at all at OU. Of course, I'd have to go back and look at every class they were in, but it's safe to say NONE of them were superstars...great kids, I'm sure, but not superstars.

This is a dumb argument.

Also
Jacob Burtschi Air Force
Matt Gibson Hawaii
Dale Lamberth Missouri State
All had great careers and werent highly sought after.

Again, NO ONE is arguing they can't play at non-BCS type schools, but you are wanting OU to recruit the Jacob Burtschi's of the world. I'm not sure that would win you a ton of games (maybe less than they have the past two years).

I quit. Will not post about it here again.

I use Cade and Taylor as an example of players that got overlooked neither one of them were superstars both had great 4 year careers. Neither of these guys are world beaters. You are not always going to get homerun players but you need solid role players who develop over time thats why OU was so good when Kelvin was here.

Josh Young was the best player in the Missouri Valley
Ekepe Udoh now plays for the Golden State Warriors
Matt Gibson star at Hawaii
