Raftery and Hill

I don't know when these boards are worse, when we're winning or losing.

Attention whores?

That and 1-uppers. There’s still people complaining that OU isn’t consistent & should’ve been playing like that all year. Baffles me how people can’t just enjoy a win & say something positive about the way they played

I never post or look while the game is going on so after it was over I was eager to see all the positive posts. I was wrong.

Great game by the Sooner. Boomer

You don’t think they watch games of the team they cover? Not all 30 but they definitely watch 1-2.

No i doubt they do much. They get a sheet of talking points and comment usually so much dumb stuff that isn't true if you've watched a team all year but it may be happening in the current 1 game they cover and the announcers act like it's the usual imo

They break down film, they aren’t coming in unprepared. They talk to other coaches & have a basic understanding of the teams. At least the good ones do, I doubt Bill Walton does much research.

They don’t have a lot of time to do that in basketball. These guys got their assignments at the end of the day Sunday. And first thing Friday morning they have to be prepared to call Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Virginia, Gardner-Webb, Duke, North Dakota State, VCU, and UCF. They probably already have some knowledge of Duke and UVA, and know a player or two on some of the other teams. They have to travel, attend shootarounds of all of these teams, meet with the coaches of all these teams, and brush up on a puff piece or two about each team. They are also generally guys who are writers/reporters who have other assignments to work on along the way. There is a minimal amount of time to break down any real film on that many teams.

You can definitely watch 1-2 games on each team, it takes less than an hour to watch a full game. They also see coaches & call/text throughout to get info on teams as well. It’s their job to do this. I’m also sure they have help along the way of creating clips for the teams & a breakdown of the players.

Meh. I've heard multiple announcers say CJ is our best player. They watch some film on us, but I doubt many watch very much.

That’s what I’m saying. They don’t know the team in and out, but they watch a game or 2 & know the basics.

Yes. And think how well their relationships would go with coaches they depend on for information if they had negative things to say about them. They almost never say negative things about coaching staffs, even when they're losing. Kermit Davis' team looked absolutely unprepared for today, and his team got ran out of the gym. Did they say anything negative enough to offend him today?

No just the basic “they don’t have any answers” or “OU is putting on a clinic”.

And that's my point. Announcers always put a positive slant on it. I'm not saying Davis is a bad coach, but he clearly didn't have his team ready to play, and I imagine he'd be the first to admit it.

Raftery was a little confused on what was happening on the other half of the court

He kept complaining about Ole Miss shot selection while they were shooting well over 50% at the time

It was turnovers and fouls that killed them

I like Raftery....but more as a caricature. And yes I noticed the same thing. Ole Miss was hitting some shots at different points in time, but some of those were contested. And at other times, they were just jacking 3s.

If you think those 3 guys watched all 30 games then you are kidding yourself.

Clearly, they watched the KU game in Norman. I would bet that was the only other game they watched.

Yep

Oklahoma has now won seven of its last 10 NCAA Tournament games under @LonKruger. A win tomorow would give the #Sooners their third Sweet 16 appearance in the last five years.

Generally speaking all coaches look great when their team makes shots and look lousy when their teams can't make a shot. Perhaps the real question is how often does a team win when they are not making shots.

Generally speaking the teams that do so are those that play outstanding defense. The Sooners are by far not a great defensive team. Virginia is. It will be interesting to heare Rafferty's and Hill's comments after the Saturday night game.

Likely they will praise Virginia and mitigate the Sooners shortcomings. It is what announcers do. Candor is not their forte.
