Ray Willis - Junior Season at NCCU

Willis, selected to the second team, finished his junior season at NCCU averaging 15.2 points per game which was seventh-best in the league. The 6-6 guard was fifth in the MEAC at the foul line shooting 80.7 percent. Willis ended the season with four double-doubles and scored 20-plus points on four different occasions, including 28 points against Delaware State on Jan. 28. Willis earned MEAC player of the week twice during the regular season.

Glad to see him playing well. I feel like he was one of those guys that needed some older players to help mentor him and was kind of a product of a tough situation at OU. I wonder if a guy like Kruger could have got him to buy in more - defend and work hard in practice?

He didn't kill us (scored 12 or 14) and he was taller than every player on our team.......Dominique Sutton on the other hand absolutely destroyed us.......8 for 8 from the field with 7 dunks......yes.........7!

I may get bashed for saying this but I personally feal Ray fell victim to Capel's system. Capel did a terrible job developing talent. For instance, when blake and company was at OU we ran with like 6 guys the entire year. Even in blowouts....He needed to get guys like ray minutes for learning purposes in some games...hopefully kruger does a better job of that

While I am glad he had a good season at NCCU, I don't think scoring was the reason he didn't play more here. It was his defense. Also, I look at his stats at NCCU, and he had 110 TOs! :facepalm That was almost a 1/4 of the teams total TOs.

It just goes to show Capels recruiting prowess. Bringing in players that are no better than 2nd team all conference in the MEAC.

I'm glad for Ray that he is having success and thriving, but proves he should have never been recruited by us.
