Realistic expectation for Ty Lazenby

I saw them Monday and his head was swimming. He wasn't able to stay with anyone on the perimeter. Granted it was their second practice and he'll get more efficient in his movement but it will be very difficult for him to stay in front of Big 12 caliber wings, IMHO.

For every David Godbold and Johnny Gilbert of the Sampson era, I can name a Nick Thompson and a CJ Washington of the Capel era.

Sure, you can, and so can I. But I've made no guarantees or even predictions about how much of a contribution Ty will eventually make, and there's a good reason for that: I haven't a clue. I've not seen him play. And neither have the majority of those rushing to predict mediocrity or worse for him.

This is the first post I remember of anyone attending a practice this summer. Anyone impress you? Any surprises? I listened to the SoonerScoop podcast today, and Eddie Radosevich mentioned that he had heard Matt Freeman is playing well. That is the only player he named.

Yes, I hope that every member of this board who attends a practice will report back to us. I'm eager for any news we can get.

It was just one practice but you can tell they've put a lot of time into getting stronger and tougher. A very physical practice. Freeman didn't look good the day I was there. Manek is thicker, longer, and better than I expected. He's the same height as Lattin or a bit taller. Jamuni is going to have a good year. Doolittle is a true difference maker. He's stronger and really commands his space. Young is smooth. He looks like a 3rd year guy out there and is already leading. Love how McGusty played and practiced. Very confident and aggressive. Odomes has really filled out and can fly. Shepard shot the ball really well that day. I like his game. He just fits. They're going to run, even off made baskets. They want to run and should be really good at it. I love the pieces.

Thank you!!!

Would love for lazenby to prove me wrong but he will probably contribute as much as cj Cole on the court. I think we should have saved that scholarship but I trust coach ultimately.

He will contribute MUCH more than Cole. Al he has to do is get 5 pts and 3 RBs

Got a text yesterday from a friend.

Lazenby was scoring at will on the first team yesterday. He's a scorer.
He gets going, look out because buckets come in a hurry.

I hope your friend is right. I'm still not sold on this kid, but I would love to be wrong. There is always a place for a player who can score.

Well he is white and plays basketball. We'll just have to try and figure out how we can use him.

Ty was much better at the practice I attended then my previous beliefs. I think he makes a nice contribution.

Good to hear, MisterF! I'm encouraged by the practice reports from you and a couple of others lately. I'm hoping Ty can be one of those guys who will provide instant offense off of the bench. Is that the role you believe he could play?
