this is a joke right? OK-LA-****ING-HOMA with california universities? Are you guys that desperate for california validation?

Incredible. I'm sure those rich california schools will adore Love's gas station and what-a-burger.

You hypocrites.

Somebody is sad they are getting left behind.

Well, you are right about the burgers. The big deal for them are Fat Burgers. Probably better than What A Burger.

What-a-Burger is from corpus christi tx, sonic is from OK. In-N-Out is the big west coast burger. But they have What-a-Burger out here and it blows away In-N-Out.

I'm sure OU and TX are working together on this deal. There was too much political pressure on Texas not to break up the Big XII with a move to the Pac last summer so they shelved it. Now that Gomer has made the first move Texas is free and clear but since there will still be a political backlash from Baylor OU is making the first move.

OU has perfect cover not only from A&M but also from Missouri, the homely girl that everybody knows will jump at the first chance to leave next.

So the decision for OU is between the SEC and Pac.

1. Financial potential/media market size - Pac by a huge margin
2. Talent pool - Pac by a huge margin when combined with Texas.
3. Academic Standing - Pac in a landslide
4. Competitive Landscape - Equal. Both are BCS AQ conferences.

It's a no brainer across the board.

1) Great. Awesome. Congrats on that. You want more revenue/prestige. It's the University of Texas way (the same thing OU has been *****ing about). It's almost like you hate on texas arrogance, simply because you wish to be just as arrogant

2) I know. There aren't many people living in hick land (the great plains). That's why you are running away from it.

3) What on earth does this even mean? You want to see the look on those California graduates when you tell them you graduated from OU? They will laugh at you. They are horrid humans beings. Why are you so obsessed with them? OU's academic standing will never change. Ever. It will always be what it is. If the University of Oklahoma is interested in becoming a "top" school, stop letting in those kids from rural oklahoma with a sub 21 act score. Is that what you really want?

Wow. Ignorance, stereotyping, and rage all in one post. Awesome.

I know this must eat you up inside something fierce..and understandably so I suppose.

Oh, I'm so sorry for stereotyping your new future neighbors.

well, the California stuff was a hoot I guess, but I was referring to the "letting in those kids from rural oklahoma with a sub 21 act score"--but like I said, I get why you're upset and it can be helpful to vent at times.

You obviously took that point the wrong way. There is NOTHING wrong with taking kids from rural oklahoma with sub-act scores. But schools like stanford laugh at the mere thought.

OU had no incentive for the Big XII to end. The conference guidelines favored us. We were fine competing to earn a higher share and have no problem with Texas earning the most. We understand they bring the most to the table. The problem did not lie with Oklahoma. It started with Missouri whoring themselves out publicly. Then little Nebraska, who can't compete with OU and Texas got nervous Missouri would jump ahead of them so they rained on Missouri's parade. Colorado has been courted by the Pac forever and decided if Nebraska was out so were they. Now A&M, another wanna be who just wants to feel loved and wants nothing to do with the pac because they truly are rubes who think exactly like what fatty posted ran for deliverance.

OU still waited to see if Texas could land a decent program to replace A&M but when the best Texas could muster is BYU I guess that's just not enough.

Sorry fatty. Just hope Kansas does not join us and leave you totally in the wilderness by yourself.

Exactly! When the conference continues to weaken and you must go thru this crap every year, then it becomes a negative and eventually the networks will say we're not gonna pay you to give us a K-State/Eastern Kentucky matchup every week. No one is going to watch!

California is no different than anywhere else. McDonalds and Burger King lead hamburger sales. I said Fat Burger because anyone that knows burgers would prefer them over In and Out or What A Burger. I question your taste if you disagree.

And you obviously missed my point. The idea that "kids from rural oklahoma" have sub-21 ACT scores is a strange notion...like kids from cities or other states don't? It was just a very strange way to make your point...especially considering the average ACT score for OU is like 26 or something.

Regardless, I have great respect for the students at Oklahoma.

My point is simply OU takes many kids with low ACT scores w/respect to california schools. Just like KSU. And, it is for this reason we are not viewed as having "great academics" like these California schools.

Similar missions. Not appreciated enough.

Actually, 5 Guys is gaining major momentum out here now. I'm a fan of what-a-burger because their standard mustard with onion burger is my preference.

But seriously, the frozen burgers I buy at walmart, doctor myself and cook on my grill are as good as any. a burger is a burger. I laugh at the so called $8-$10 "gourmet burger" joints popping up like Lush Burger, etc. The next jamba juice, a short sale waiting to happen.

I disagree. State schools are state schools and all their rankings should be taken with a grain of salt unless you are in the top 25 which Cal and UCLA happen to be. But once you start getting out of the top 25 the ranking of state schools is more a factor of the population of the state and the starting salary in that area than the actual academic ranking.

There are only a handful of state schools worth paying our of state tuition for and UCLA and Cal are on that short list. Virginia is the only other lock with North Carolina and Michigan on the edge but Michigan has faded fast.

See, I get this and I understand where you're coming from. I must say though, to heck with perception because I think providing great education for the wide public and having high standards in that education are not mutually exclusive goals and having lived in Oklahoma for almost my entire life and myself and multiple family members having received degrees from OU from the early 1980s to a few years ago, the change in standards since before the mid 90s to the present is something that I've been privy to and been able to observe...people have mixed opinions about Boren and I respect that but one thing he has always strived to do is constantly improve the academic experience at the University--and I think it's something that he has had a lot of success in doing (again, just my opinion..OU was certainly a good school before Boren came along but the change since has been pretty remarkable).

Sorry for getting a little off topic, just have too much pride in my school I guess :) But I get where you're coming from fatty and we're probably not that far apart.

And also, the Pac conference is a hell of a lot more than "those darned California schools" ;)

The bottom line is that people like Jim Inhofe and Tom Coburn do a lot more damage to the reputation of OU than our true academic standing.

Perception is reality and when the state is represented by people totally detached from proven science and economics the entire state gets a bad wrap. Thankfully Boren is leading OU has to help.

Don't be bitter. This realignment think is like a wave...if we don't ride it we will be burried beneath it! I can't think of three schools to bring in to replace the three we lost that would keep the Big-12 where it is at competition wise. We won't lure away any big football OR basketball schools. So people have said "go get ND and Arkansas that is no more likely to happen than us getting Duke and North Carolina to come to our conference. I would prefer to still be the Big 8 but that is not realistic. Bottom line anyway is all of us are powerless to change any of this so we might as well not worry about it.

The Big 12 was dead a year ago when they didn't try and add 2 good programs to replace what they had. BYU isn't leaving being an independent right now. Neither is Notre Dame. But a year ago BYU could have easily come in. If they got a Utah before the PAC 10 got them that would have been a solid choice also. Even a Boise may have been a decent choice. I wouldn't have even minded TCU even though they add nothing. Instead they tried to keep the conference together and rely on an unstable A&M and unstable Missouri to stay in the conference. And A&M decided it didn't want to be around Texas. They'll regret this decision looking back just like most Arkansas fans regret going to the SEC 20 years ago.
