Recruiting - Can someone provide an update

Having Cole on scholarship isn't a problem, until you strike out on other front court players and then bring in Arent, Bennett, etc. No depth.

CJ was a really good high school player that has some size and skill. With that said, throw him in the West or East Texas JUCO leagues and he would maybe make honorable mention all-conference...if anything at all. Just because he's at OU doesn't mean all of the sudden he is better than anyone at D-II, JUCO, etc. You are vastly underestimating the depth of talent across the nation.

How is a kid that works hard, gives his all and makes a 4.0 a waste of a scholarship? I would say all of the kids over the years that have been kicked off the team or quit for various reasons are the wasted scholarships. I would say the kids that fail to get their degrees and don't make it in the NBA are wasted scholarships. I think we should honor student athletes like CJ Cole.

this is very much how I feel also ..

Forget the name "CJ Cole" for a moment. If the 13th best scholarship player is: 1) at or near a 4.0 GPA, 2) a major asset in practice, and 3) a positive locker room presence, then I'm trying to think of a reason why anyone would be dissatisfied.

I can think of only one time when not having an available scholarship came back to bite us. About a dozen years ago, Kelvin Sampson filled the last scholly with a guy named Jimmy Tobias (who never suited up)...and right after that, Baylor's program collapsed and we lost out on signing Stanley Roberts.

Hated missing out on that guy. A really nice player. Ended up at Miss St I believe.

CJ is a great student. In the general population a great basketball player. He isn't however a division 1 contributing basketball player. They haven't run him off but 4 years is enough scholarship plus all of the summer school. The fifth year is because you can play or still need to graduate. If CJ is a great student then he will have no problem graduating with four years and four summers!

Very reasonable.

Cole won't contribute on the court, but we'll lose more than one scholly if we get put back on the naughty list.

Yes, thank you for the correction. Lawrence Roberts would have been a great pickup as he had at least two years of eligibility. Oh well. That was the only time I can remember which not having that scholly bit us. In most cases, you have the opposite problem - extra schollies because guys like Booker and Hornbeak transfer because they want more playing time.

I guess it can't hurt but I see no evidence that he has helped us in any way. He's just another AAU coach from what I can tell.

Booker didn't transfer because of playing time, he was shown the door. While I do appreciate CJ's contribution I think 4 years is plenty long.

if YOu can get off the cJ Cole deal for awhile I can give you some info. Yes, we are in
Bolden's final 7 and he is working to set up a fall visit. Don't have much hope but at
least we are in the game. we gave a 6'9" player from New Zealand named Matt Freeman coming in Sept for a visit. Being recruited by Notre Dame, Tennessee and others. Also
a shooter from La Porte named Alex Hobbs who is being recruited by Baylor, KState
and others. Pritchard will come down to OU and Oregon with his girlfriend being at
Oregon and will probably be the deciding factor. If OU does not get him they will probably
wait until 2017 and tell Trae Young here it is.

Great stuff as always. If it's PP or nothing this year at PG, then they must think James or McGusty can back up Woodard in 2 years with Isaiah and Walker both graduated. I look at Trae Young as more is a 2 guard than a PG. Also, will they give out all 5 scholarships this year? McGusty, James, and Hobbs seem like they play the same position/role. I kind of figured Buford and Odomes would split being the 3....... Bigger wing.

Trae is going to be a scoring PG. Steph Curry like

A graduate transfer next year would be nice, as we're going to need help to ease the blow of losing a combined 300 career starts.

I agree. Just some extra maturity and veteran leadership.

In addition to Payton Pritchard, OU is looking at two JUCO Point Guards for the 2016 class. Both are 6’1” and are higher-level prospects than Dinjiyl Walker.
