When it comes to recruiting, some on this board do not see any problem with recruiting and they will attack anyone who suggests otherwise. Let me ask a question...do you not think Baylor was better than OU at every position, except for Peyton?

With in the first 5 minutes of the game I was just thinking we don't have The weapons to even compete with Baylor let alone beat them. When a team your conference have a better player at every position that's recruit nothing more nothing less. It all comes down to this Kim takes recruiting a lot more seriously than Sherri does.

Norm,
I think Gabbi played up to the moment.
It doesn't help that your only senior is Campbell who is having a pretty average year. And is overmatched by Baylor's height and athleticism.
But the fact is that Baylor is more talented at most positions.
AND, psychologically Baylor has owned OU lately. I don't see how mentally the returning players on the roster "think" they can beat Baylor. The road atmosphere plus Baylor's hot start ended the game from the beginning.
I think the game in Norman will be a better test.
First, beat them in Norman.
Second, play them close in Waco.
Then beat them in Waco.
OU is going to have rebuild the mentality towards competing with Baylor again.

Comparing the CURRENT rosters yes Baylor is better than OU. With that said as with any freshman class coming in you do not know their real impact till their 2nd or 3rd season so as I do agree Kim has out recruited Sherri over the last couple of years I truly believe with what is currently coming into the program I would not say not so much, but again only time will tell. Sherri went into a deep dark hole for about 4 years and the program is showing that. She got some quality 1, 2, & 3's, but has fail to get any 4 or 5's and last night showed that. We just can't complete with a team that has good 4 & 5's. Hopefully when Ijeoma Odimgbe and then Mulkey get here that will change, but again only time will tell.

Look, I have criticized Sherri for years for poor recruiting. She only wants goody-two-shoes girls who have no attitude and don't get into trouble.

That's criteria #1 and we all know it. #2 criteria is basketball ability. #3, in my personal estimation is, are you a Believer.

Now, there is nothing really wrong with that set of criteria. But it isn't going to win championships in today's world. You don't need bad kids, that's not what I'm saying, but you need players like our current Whitney and the last one, and D-Rob that have a fire that burns so brightly it will not be extinguished.

That means getting in opponents faces sometimes, it means kicking your teammates in the butt whenever it is even remotely needed and you need a coach that acts the same way.

I've heard dozens of stories about how tough Sherri is in practice. I've talked to former players, donors and people associated with OU athletics.

Sherri is tough, plays favorites and gets after her players in practice.

But is she Skeletor tough? Is she Geno tough? Is she Muffin McGraw or the Stanford coach tough? I don't think so.

We have seen a few occasions that she can be -- benching Ellenberg for periods over the last two years. Getting on Morgan enough to make Morgan give the press a damning quote ("What more can I do? -- said in frustration). Benching Kaylon and Goiya. Kornet riding the pine. She's been tougher this year, IMHO, than ever before (probably because she finally has some depth -- which the lack of was also her fault).

Sherri's a really good coach. She has been one of the best in the nation on occasion over the years. She isn't right now. But there is hope.

I wish she would kick officials in the ass and throw a few tantrums on the sideline too. You don't have to become a Mulkey to do that. But that's not who Sherri is.

I do think Sherri retires before she gets to 25 years in. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if she goes after this year.

I think we have a lot to look forward to the next two to four years. We've got even more quality players coming in and we are still in the hunt for some good players.

I'm not ready (at least not anymore, if I ever was) to kick Sherri to the curb.

But as a Type A personality myself, who has challenged some pretty big folks on more than one occasion, I'd like more fire and if after two more seasons after this one and we don't get where everyone wants us to be, it will be time for her to go, and I think she will hit the door voluntarily before that ever happens.

Baylor has better faster guards the reason I believe this case it's style of play. Baylor is a fast break team that can beat you off the dribble. OU is a jump shooting team with guards who don't like contact. Until OU addresses the lack of physical play they will struggle against teams that play physical.
Even the post players are soft look at KK at 6'6 she should be averaging 15 point and 15 rebounds and she does not.
Coach Coale needs players who are mean and aggressive and that are not afraid of contact. I believe signing Ana was a great start,if they offer Jo'han and Taylor that would be great for the team as for as physical guards. All three of these ladies don't run from contact and are mean something you need in the Big 12.
Like Charles Barkley says jump shooting teams don't stay long in the playoffs you have to get to basket and make lay-ups and free throws.

The game started before I got home so I was listening to the radio and I heard Colton say, "if it comes down to being tough, OU has a real advantage over Baylor." I'm thinking, really?!?!

I really like Ana. She is very athletic, something we need. I haven't seen enough of Dungee yet but I don't think she is as athletic and can create the way Ana can. Taylor can flat score the basketball. She isn't as athletic as Ana but when you have someone who can score the way she can, you go after them. I haven't seen Johnson but college coaches are drooling over her so I am too. Of course, Cox is the player we desperately need. Holmes would work too. So would Chou.

We need some really good guards to make a run in the NCAA tournament. A very athletic team will always give us problems until they fix the guard play.

The bad thing is Baylor is only going to keep getting better and better, they are currently the best team in the big 12 and could be for the next few seasons...

Wow what planet has he been on. Baylor's toughness and athleticism is the big difference.

See you then. But in between now and then watch some other teams outside of the Big 12.

I'm just gonna bite my tongue- I know basketball- Following your extreme pessimism after one game, on the road, with a young team- Its obvious you don't. Thanks for your time. I'll be bk

All of you make very valid points, and I agree.
We need toughness!! 3pt shooting can only get you so far!
She needs to change it up a bit! Get her tail out there and start recruiting!
Numerous people have said that when coach Coale recruits, it's either
"Yes or No". She doesn't recruit hard enough or doesn't stay in contact with the recruit. Which makes perfect sense which was one of the reasons C Walker Decommited from us.

Don't get me wrong at times she can be a very good coach. She's by far one of the best teachers of the game. But, does she play favorites? Yes. Will she ever sign all american, #1 players, etc? NO. She has no recruiting work ethic. It's like "come to OU because I'm Sherri Coale" that's not how life works. Build relationships, Be a tireless recruiter, let the girls know that YOU are interested in them. You are supposed to recruit them, not them recruiting you.

If I were her I would be so Embarassed By letting the big time schools come in my state and steal my talent. I would be all over Wilson, Johnson, Roberts, etc!
You don't let those type of players leave the state! Those are in state program changers! We just lucked up with Dungee and Llanusa.

I remember when dawn staley first got the South Carolina job she stated she had to "Own" the state of South Carolina in recruiting because too many good recruits were leaving the state. Her 2nd year she signed the player of the year Aleshgha Welch. Year after that Alaina Coates, and last year Aja Wilson. Now that is Recruiting! And in your own state! Now look where they are? You have to convince these young ladies to stay home. Over the years She has let way to many recruits leave the state and all of them have said the same thing. "they were not recruited hard enough by her or not recruited at all.

Everyone in this state is not an OU Fan. It's not everyone's "Dream school". With that being said, you have to RECRUIT them! Not just assume they will sign if you offer them the schlorship. I'm sure many girls dream of playing for OU but are under the radar when it comes to recruiting. Especially in the state of Oklahoma. It just so happened OU was Dungee and Llanusa dream school and they committed. How many McDonald's all Americans has this state had and have signed with OU? 0! Now that should speak volumes when it comes to recruiting and in your own state. Sherri loves coming up with Slogans like "Own Today".
How bout Owning your state in recruiting!

Something has got to give in order for us to be an Elite basketball program.
Coaching staff, recruiting, something. What got us to the 2009 and 2010 final 4?
Speed, toughness, athleticism! Why did we go away from that? Now just a roster full of jump shooters.
