Maddie is coming off of 2 years of not playing, 2 years of ACL injuries and rehabilitation. When she started playing she was slow, extremely cautious and obviously still in pain.
She has made some silly fouls that have gotten her benched, but I think she will improve over time. Either she has lost a great deal of her speed and agility or she wasn't that good to start with. Currently she is just flat out slow.
I don't think she's the savior Syb and a few others seem to think she will be. I think she can still be very good next year, but she may be about to get recruited over. Think on that a minute.
If she can, she needs to pick up her game. She is faster than most 3s and 4s, I think and I believe I would start playing her there more and more. She is not going to be a point guard. A 2, maybe.
She works hard, she still hasn't gotten into game shape, as they say. She's rusty, tentative and hampered by getting 10 minutes or less a game.
I am hopeful for her. Like Kornet, I really like her play and her demeanor. Great ambassador for OU. Kornet, I think is finished being a contributor at anything other than mop-up minutes. Maddie can still be a difference maker.
However, I'm not putting any halo's around her head and I don't believe she is going to be parting any seas in the near future.
But she should be back 100 percent and with some game experience under her belt next year. For all practical purposes, we need to remember, she's still a freshman on the court.
Maddie is not slow though. Sherri says they ran the pick and roll through Maddie against Texas because "she is so good at turning that corner". She regularly penetrates against the opposition. Not things slow players are able to do. she is one of three players that I have seen create off the dribble (her lenesia and Gioya) Slow players can't do that. I don't thinks she looks slow at all but, maybe she doesn't look as fast as she is cause of her long strides? but she certainly is.
It doesn't matter though- The girl needs to learn to score the basketball or nobody will ever care. Hope they give her a chance to develop cause the talent is there. Time will tell.
You don't need to be fast to run that pick and roll play. Whitney Hand did it all the time. Where speed and quickness is needed is on defense on the perimeter. Both Manning and Kornet are a step too slow. It would appear to me that, if you array the minutes played, the time is going to the most athletic players.
I would add Derica too. I doubt we will see Sherri recruit those kind of players very often in the future.
You could be on to something, that could explain why Brook Alexander didn't get a real look from OU.
Unless Sherri can land Cox, Ana Llanusa will be our next impact player, shes Top 10 everywhere in the 2017 class

I have to smile at some of the comments about Maddie.
She is effectively a Freshman, has braces on her knees to help protect her ACL repaired knees, and will need another year to recover. There is absolutely no way to know how much better she will get over the next 2 or 3 (possibly) years.
Every player does not bring exactly the same skills/characteristics as another player. There are many different types of players - and many styles that can deliver important minutes to a team.
Lets stop criticizing a player dealing with recovery issues from multiple injuries.
KK receives much the same foolish criticism. Check out her shooting percentage. Is she perfect? Of course not. How many are hitting at a better rate?
Yes, she frustrates me at times, but we are really lucky we have her. Would you prefer V or T be playing post all the time? If so, you have not been watching the games. They look good for a short time then mess up big time. We cannot win consistently without KK this year.
Part of her slowing down a bit is to adapt to a handful of referees who are extra hard on her because they expect (want?) her to foul. There have been several occasions this year when a foul was called on her because it looked like there could have been contact - not because there was contact. I for one was really impressed and happy to see her back off the dumb fouls after an opponent's rebound in the Baylor game.
Regarding the team, It's entirely possible that our young team was a bit star-struck and intimidated playing an excellent team in Waco. And it's entirely possible that they'll have that out of their systems in 12 days when both teams play in Norman.
They did play Baylor to basically a standstill in the second half, but they were so far behind at halftime it wasn't realistic to expect a win. We are better than that, and I don't know that Baylor can or will play that well against us again.
It might be a heavier cross than she's prepared to carry.
