Recruiting

And if I remember right you said Maddie was at Brianna Stewart's level. With posts like that hard to take you serious.

When you criticize someone, make sure that you are without sin. The word would be "seriously."

Now, rather than using the straw man tactic of stating that someone said something, let's see what was actually said or implied. As I remember, I have also stated that Maddie Manning has the same skill sets as Stewart. She does. If you don't see that, you are no judge of talent. She can do things that others can't do because she is a bit taller than the average guard, she does have deceptive quickness, and she can shoot from anywhere.

At this point, Maddie has not developed these skills over the past two years, and it may be a year before she is able to have confidence in her abilities. But, she is the difference-maker on this team, the one prospect that can elevate this team, if she does develop. She also does have a fire that will cause her to want to develop it. Give it some time and see if she can overcome two ACL injuries.

Now, you can return to your rant.

Actually I didn't think it was fair to Maddie with that comparison. I think Maddie can be a key piece in the future of this program, but I don't believe she has the ability of a Stewart. With that said, Candice Parker is the only one I can think of that did. Those 2 are "rare air".

Let's just look at one little fact. Maddie has had limited use thus far. Yet, a kid with two ACL injuries that is still recovering and seems to lack confidence in the extent of that recovery was OU's leader in shot-blocking in conference play until last night. Now, she is one block behind Kay Kay, despite playing about half the time.

Supposedly, she is still somewhat crippled. She does seem to lack some confidence in her game as yet. But, shot blocking is a lot about having the reactions or skill set to be able to put your hand exactly on the ball which is being controlled by your opponent. That is athleticism. This is a part-time guard who blocks shots at a much better rate than someone that Sherri thinks is an athlete. Curiously, the one thing that you don't see Maddie drawing fouls for is shot-blocking.

That's absolutely, 100 percent correct Syb. She does commit some stupid fouls, but every player does that.

I could only listen to the game- Now I'm watching it. We could not of played worse. HORRIBLE Shot selection. and turnover. after turnover. They dared KK to beat them and she shyed away. But we match up much better than I assumed. We can beat this team- no doubt in my mind. Lets get this one back to Norman.

The game started before I got home so I was listening to the radio and I heard Colton say, "if it comes down to being tough, OU has a real advantage over Baylor." I'm thinking, really?!?!

:facepalm
Exactly the kind of thing we don't need...radio/tv commentators that lack credibility or in this case OBVIOUSLY BIASED. And who can blame him? It's his mother's program. Well, actually...those that purchase tickets and support the program (yes including myself) should complain. It's one thing for OU fans to hear it...it's another thing when the opponents fans hear it and wonder what kind of program hires this kind of commentator? Again, it does not help the team/program from any perspective. "What a joke..." is what most were probably thinking while we were getting our hind parts handed to us. And the rest of the time, we were handing our hind parts to our own selves (i.e. turnovers, no rebounding, etc). Just saying...been saying!

Ummm...don't think so. At the same time, on any given day things can change. But highly unlikely here. Take into consideration...
1. They are much more skilled and athletic.
2. Their coach stands up (or squats) and coaches for 40 minutes whether they are up by 2 or 30.
3. Their YOUNG players are much more accustomed to competing against top notch competition prior to arriving at college (via club teams). Our YOUNG...not as much. The teams they were on either did not travel the major circuits and if they did...were not successful. That's why it's important to get top 10 recruits every year. All of the consistently top programs do. That's why they stay at the top.

But we can always hope for an anomaly!

Ummmmm. yes.

You really think this has anything to do with what you did high school? lol

We were athletic enough to get GREAT looks- NONE fell. In the beginning of the the game KK got the ball on the block 6-7 times and she should have finished. They didn't collapse so she couldn't pass out and she continued to try to pass- she could of had 15 points in the first 3 mins. Instead she made some awful turnovers.

Most of Baylors points came from loose balls, put backs, turnovers, and contested shots- as well break downs on the drive, but i didn't feel they were overwhelming. The put backs, they will get a few, there better at rebounding than us. But Most of the turnovers and missed shots were to no credit for them. We literally gave them the ball.

But I don't see one position, except for Niya Johnson that are we are completely out manned. Nina Davis scores because Niya Johnson is real good- I don't see why we put Sharane on Nina- put somebody on her that can keep up w her quickness. (Maddie?) that open court blocked shot in the begining was awfully impressive. I think she could contain her. It comes down to taking care of the ball and knocking down our WIDE OPEN looks- that we are MORE than capable of knocking down. We take care of the ball-keep Niya from running the break off our turnovers we will beat this team. They are not that good.

U can really discredit everything that happened in the last 30 minutes of the game, Sherri didn't even play anybody, we were taking crazy risks cause of the lead. It was those first 5-6 minutes we lost this game, no due to superior basketball players but off of mistakes- We beat ourselves. Hate to burst everyones bubble, but this is not a talent issue.

at the 10 minute mark we had Vivi, Kornet, TT, Lenesia, and Wyatt in. As a unit, that dog don't hunt. We can beat this team, they are not Uconn.

Yep/

Dude, I don't care how many times you say it isn't, it is a talent issue. Period.

Baylor had better players. It isn't that hard to figure out.

Yes...goes back to recruiting. The players are not top 10 types from HIGH SCHOOL. They may be basically fundamentally sound, but they do not have high level skill sets or athleticism. And they are competing against another YOUNG team that are top 10 types from HIGH SCHOOL that are fundamentally sound, receive continuous development, receive consistent sideline coaching (winning or losing) and are very, very athletic. The four guard thing might work in 2015 if they are exceptionally skilled, high BB IQ's and very athletic. Are we? NO.

I reiterate, this game had nothing to do with talent or athleticism. We BEAT ourselves. I'm coming to collect on you guys after we play them in Norman.

If our players are as good as Baylor's, maybe it is our coaching that is not as good.

Of course it goes back to high school recruiting. That's a given. What some on here like to do is look at the number associated with a particular player (such as she was ranked #35 in the country) and they assume we signed a great player. It isn't that simple. What they should look at is, what are their high school stats (if they are bad in high school, they aren't likely to improve in college), what is their ranking by the various recruiting services, and which universities are recruiting that player. Combined, that is MUCH more indicative of that players potential. If they are ranked #35 and Geno and Muffet is recruiting them, I want that player. If she is ranked #20 and not one top 10 program is on her recruiting list, there is a reason. Those players should come with a warning that says, "even though I am ranked by ESPN, recruit me with caution."

Norm, i have literally not seen one post of yours that I deemed credible. You know nothing about basketball. Go teach some ppl how to shoot some jumpers, I know you have a lot to offer in the field.

Good, because if you agreed with me, I would stop posting. You have been rambling for days about how we have a whole roster of WNBA players and we don't have a lack of talent. That says all I need to know about your basketball knowledge.

Baylor has better faster guards the reason I believe this case it's style of play. Baylor is a fast break team that can beat you off the dribble. OU is a jump shooting team with guards who don't like contact. Until OU addresses the lack of physical play they will struggle against teams that play physical.
Even the post players are soft look at KK at 6'6 she should be averaging 15 point and 15 rebounds and she does not.
Coach Coale needs players who are mean and aggressive and that are not afraid of contact. I believe signing Ana was a great start,if they offer Jo'han and Taylor that would be great for the team as for as physical guards. All three of these ladies don't run from contact and are mean something you need in the Big 12.
Like Charles Barkley says jump shooting teams don't stay long in the playoffs you have to get to basket and make lay-ups and free throws.

Hey, I get that you are trying to make a point about the "softness" of the OU players, and that you'd like for Kay-Kay to be more aggressive and with more fire, but let's keep it real, here. Kay-Kay is 6'3", not 6'6".

Where are you coming up with this 6'6" business???

BIG difference.
