Recruits coming to visit and play in pickup games with varsity players sounds like tryouts. I suppose all schools do this. But what if say OU had Gunnar Kiel come in and play a little 7 on 7 with the OU football varsity. I would think DEATH PENALTY in football. Anybody know the NCAA regs on this?

The coaches can't watch the pick-up games. It's players only.

In football, a player or couple players usually host the recruit. In theory, they could play some pick-up football somewhere, but it seems unlikely the coaches would want them risking injury.

Yeah its legal. Even Juco's and D2 schools do this when they bring in players. Its common at every level.
