Report: Big 12 staying together?

Doesn't make me mad, I just think it is a mistake. I think moving to a super conference is, from a business standpoint, inevitable and best to do it now while we are negotiating from a position of strength.

I would think it would be better to start our own super conference.
And from a business standpoint the money would be about the same.

This has no chance of lasting more than 2 years or so. When ND joins the Big 10, the conference will end. Plus it sounds like A&M is going to announce the SEC without them there's not even close to enough support to get 17 million. As good as OU and Texas are. Kansas makes about that much a year in Basketball, but that's the only basketball program that does this. A Big IX just wouldn't work. Nobody would buy it. All this talk is just stuff to say "We tried to save it"

Texas holds the conference fate. Plain and Simple. KU, KSU, and ISU fans need to realize that. There would have to be alot of money put on the plate to keep Texas in the big12.

If we stay with the Big IX because A&M is gone. Texas would have 100% control of the conference. You really think that's good for the long term of ANY conference? I would give the conference 3 years or when ND joins the B10.

why would anyone here be mad?

You must not have read the jillion threads on how the Big 12 is busted and the awesomeness of the Pac-16. See Nick Zepp's comments above for an idea.

As much as I malign the end of the Big 12 Conference I feel like this would be a terrible decision. Quite frankly Boren and Castiglione need to grab their nuts and do what is best for the long term future of our athletic department rather than being led around by the nose by Texas. I hate to say it, but the University of Oklahoma needs to join the Pac 10. Any other decision (including joining the SEC) would be a big mistake.

Why?

I think it is less a case of how awesome a Pac-16 might be and more about the fear that a Big XII sans Colorado, Nebraska and A&M is not viable.

The proposed Pac-16 has more athletic, academic and monetary value than a depleted Big XII. That is a fact.

If A&M goes to the SEC it is game, set, match. You can't carry on with 9 teams.

With all due respect Cheno I think you're letting some personal motivations cloud your judgment on this one.

Why because I don't think Boren and Joe C are out to ruin the OU athletic department?
Because I like the history and tradition of the Big 12?
Because I want the Big 12 to stay intact?

I've been firm in my stance of....I love the Big 12 and want it to stay together.

The Big 12 is history if 9 teams are left. The Big 12 isn't in tact without Colorado and Nebraska leaving. Texas A&M is about to leave. And I bet OU leaves real soon too.

why would anyone here be mad?

Like I said DM.....the Big 12 staying together won't be a popular thing around here. It's not what the majority want by what I've read the last week or two.

Yes, that's exactly why. I don't disagree with any of those statements. Does that mean I feel that the Big 12 is the best thing for OU going forward? No it does not. We're on a sinking ship here, and I don't want to hang around for the ride just so Texas can start their own television network.

I don't disagree with you either man. To me, all this is a sad day in college athletics because it's sending a clear message it's not about the student athlete's and fans at all. It's not about traditions and school spirit.
It's just about money.
You're right though, it's all about Texas. Their fans must be laughing up a storm at the rest of us waiting on them to make a decision.

I disagree. If the Big XII could stay around and continue to be an elite conference, most people would be on board. From a realistic standpoint, I just don't see it. I am a fan of the Big XII, but I am a fan of OU first. If staying in the Big XII was the best thing for OU, I would be doing back flips.
