Oklahoma falls to Georgia in SEC/Big 12 Challenge

ATHENS, Georgia — Following an 11-day break, Oklahoma resumed play at Georgia for the SEC/Big 12 Challenge on Sunday.

The Sooners fell 93-80, dropping to 0-2 ahead of their Big 12 opener at Kansas on Thursday.

The teams were tied at 67 entering the final 10 minutes after the Sooners outscored the Bulldogs in both the second and third quarters. Georgia dominated the fourth frame,

however, to run away with a 13-point win.

Georgia’s Gabby Connally scored a game-high 29 points on 9-of-17 shooting to help her team to 4-0.

Madi Williams scored an OU-leading 18 points, shooting 7 of 15 from the floor. The junior guard added six rebounds, four assists and three steals as well.

OU’s Nevaeh Tot and Gabby Gregory scored in double figures, posting 14 and 13 points in the loss.

The Sooners made their first road contest interesting, making 7 of 8 shots from beyond the arc in the second and third quarters. OU couldn’t find its touch from the perimeter in the fourth period, while Georgia shot 46.7% from the floor and made 2 of 3 3-point attempts in the last 10 minutes.

Georgia also won the turnover battle, recording 15 to OU’s 23 and scoring 26 points off of turnovers to the Sooners’ 19. The Sooners will look to bounce back from their 0-2 start against the Jayhawks Thursday in Lawrence, Kansas.

We have the best three point shooter around, and she shoots two 3's the whole game? Come on coaches....Can we not find a way to get her the ball????

Looks like the SEC/Big 12 challenge was a flop for the big 12.

Seven losses
Two cancellations
One win.....West Virginia over Tennessee

Tot
Roberts
Williams
Scott
Simpson

That should be our starting five... Madi looks like an all big 12 performer this year, but she doesn’t have any help... Ana being hurt has probably helped her in so way, normally Ana would shoot a lot now Madi who was our best player last season has the green light.

TRob's just too slow and unathletic to get open against teams with athletic defenders. That was the story with georgia. She doesn't create her own space and just expects to have an open shot at the perimeter . If she played at a lower level that might be the case but if she expects to be successful at this level she needs to step it up, if she's even able to. I've said before I don't believe she's a true D1 overall player, she's just a D1 level shooter, everything else in her game is lacking. There were so many times she was too slow to get to her assigned player on offense, resulting in that player hitting an open shot. It's frustrating as heck to watch. Madi Williams looks like she's coming to her own as a player and is definite all Big 12 caliber. Ana being gone has probably helped her in the sense she has the green light to take the shot, which she's making much more then Ana did, thus far anyway. It's a shame a player with her talent may never see an NCAA tournament.
On a side note, I swore I saw Scott stand next to Simpson and she was a smidge taller, so I do believe she is actually 6'2. I know she's taller than Ana by a couple of inches.

No question Madi shoots the ball much better than did Ana. Last year she shot 6% better from the field (.471 vs .410) and 7% better BTA (.353 vs .283). And while 2 game is about 15 games to few to be looking a shooting averages Madi is off to a slower start than last year shooting .444 & .200.

At any otherUniversity the coach would have put in about 6/8 different screens to get her a shot. Coach knew she had no foit speed when she recruited her. And to her credit she plays hard on defense and=gives it her all. Norman High girls coach Michele Neal would be getting 20+ from her in his sceams.
