Robert Allen thinks Marcus Smart is coming back

Every time you say "hey poor" toward an OSU fan, I wonder how big of a loser you are in real life.

Even if the guy were in fact poor, it really doesn't mean anything. There are plenty of graduates from both OSU and OU who don't make a whole lot of money but have jobs that impact other peoples lives. I.E. nurses, work for non-profits, teach, etc.

Your comment is just plain stupid and a pretty dense attempt to make fun of someone on a message board. At least come up with something clever that even your fellow OU fans can appreciate and laugh at.

As far as Marcus Smart goes - he is a top 5 draft pick this year. He could definitely use a year to improve his shooting and his decision making at times is questionable for a PG but he doesn't have a bad A/TO ratio, just not the best.

He will be a NBA starter though and it will be up to him to improve his game and become a better shooter and just more polished basketball player.

The way Blake Griffin plays now is really not a whole like how he was at OU. He is probably one of the best examples of taking a guy with raw talent and huge upside who has already shown the ability to play smart basketball and make plays...but then take it to a whole different level in the NBA.

Who knows if Smart can do that...but NBA scouts and teams will give him that chance.

I'm with you on Smart. Think he is the real deal. But dude? Griffin was pretty much the beast he is now that he was in college. Has he become more crafty? Of course. Does he have an even better jumper? Heck ya. But to say that he was just "raw talent" is a off by a lot. The dude dominated every game in his sophomore year that he wasn't hurt in or that was not against North Carolina. Whereas Smart does disappear more often than Blake did in his sophomore year. I think in a different year he may not be a top 5 pick, but he will be this year. He needs one more year and would probably do what Griffin did in his sophomore year. I mean Griffin went from a top 10 pick to #1.

I didn't mean raw as a basketball player as a whole. I mean raw as in he wasn't necessarily going to come into the NBA and dominate right off the bat unless he did improve his jump shot, post-moves, and overall strength.
He would have been a starter regardless if he improved or not. But he became an All-Star by making those improvements.

I think the same can be said for Smart. If he makes the improvements to his weaknesses then he can indeed not only be a starter for the bobcats or magic but perhaps an All-Star.

I don't agree with Smart disappearing. He doesn't disappear in big games. He gets better. He passes more against bad teams to get his teammates going and more confident.

The only thing he does that hurts his team the most is fouling and getting into foul trouble and then he can't be on the court.

So you make fun of a poster for not spelling or phrasing things correctly and then you post this mess. LOL LOL LOL OSU losers

LOL, Smart will NEVER be an NBA All star, NEVER. Save my post and come back with it if I am ever wrong. That is soooooo funny aglet

Jesus, dude. Get a grip.

Just look at each player's line for the game:

Rodriguez: 3/16 shooting (0/4 from 3pt range), 10 points, 6 assists, 4 turnovers, 1 steal
Smart: 7/11 shooting (1/2 3pt range), 21 points, 6 assists, 3 turnovers, 2 steals

You're going to look at that and honestly tell me that Smart didn't win that battle? SERIOUSLY?

I'm sure you're going to blather on about Smart had nothing to do with Rodriguez' poor shooting, etc.

LOL.

Yeah... I'm just positive that you and a few other delusional posters on OUHoops.com are right and every college and NBA basketball analyst out there is wrong.

FIrst, leave my Jesus out of this!! And quit using Dude - next you will be Randy Jackson saying DOG all the time UGH. I will get a grip IF you can learn to read and comprehend. Don't quote stupid game total stats, watch the stupid game and SEE that not once did Smart cause Angel to turn it over. Stats are for losers - I watched the game and IF YOU DID you can SEE exactly what I said. Please learn to comment and respond TO WHAT I SAID not what you heard or THOUGHT YOU HEARD OR READ, LOL.

It must be true that every single NBA and college analyst, without exception, views Smart as God's gift to basketball, or surely the pumpkin posse wouldn't continue to post it here, right? I'm sure they've read every article, every story, every analysis, every broadcast transcript, and they know whereof they speak.

Admins, maybe it's time for a separate board devoted to the King of All He Surveys; he's certainly deserving. After all, it's clear to anyone with eyes to see that he is a combination of Oscar Robertson, Michael Jordan and Lebron James, only without their weaknesses and shortcomings; he is clearly destined to not only set a standard for basketball greatness that will never be equaled, but also to cure cancer, balance the nation's budget, and bring about world peace.

It's time we stopped denying him his due.

Maybe the next time "Marcus Smart" is in the thread title, don't click on said thread?

Or more to the point, I could just block all the aggies who post here on this Sooner board. But that would take hours.

OK... I understand your point.

Basketball performances cannot be measured objectively with stats.

Comparing the stats to gauge performance of two players who play the same position in a head-to-head game is "for losers" right?

So what you're telling me is that Smart, who was directly guarding Rodriguez the entire game, had absolutely nothing to do with Rodriguez shooting 18% from the floor and committing nearly half of his team's turnovers.

Yeah... keep screaming "I watched the game." Because that will make look like less of a moron.

watch the stupid game and SEE that not once did Smart cause Angel to turn it over.

Again, a link to the entire second half of the "stupid game," in which you can clearly see Smart steal the ball from Rodriguez in the last minute of play (around the 48:25 mark in the video):

Smart picked his pocket at least once (with around 36.5 seconds left), so you're probably exaggerating a bit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ouqetI6RStg

No one is going to take your argument seriously if you repeatedly make a false claim, especially after someone has pointed it out. One play doesn't make or break a player either way, but if Smart isn't what he's hyped up to be, then you should be able to craft an argument without lying.

the stats PROVE he is not a good shooter right now

Stats are for losers
At least try to be consistent.

It's bizarre that you make this argument while simultaneously making an argument about someone's defense on the basis of turnovers, which is a stat.

Furthermore, it's a terrible way to evaluate defense because forcing turnovers and playing good defense are not synonymous. The Pacers are one of the worst teams in the league in opponent turnover ratio but lead the NBA in defensive efficiency; meanwhile, the Cavs are one of the top teams in the league in opponent turnover ratio but are one of the worst in defensive efficiency. Conversely, there are teams whose succesful defenses are partly predicated upon forcing turnovers (i.e. Grizzlies, Heat), but trying to reduce an evaluation of a team or an individual to box scores stats is overly simplistic and highly misleading.

As an OU fan, it's perfectly fine with me if Smart really is an overrated player that doesn't succeed in the NBA. As a fan of logic, some of these arguments kill me.

WHATEVER, I could care less if you or antyone else "takes me seriously" - oh I'm so sad that some stranger behind a key board thinks poorly of me - YEAH RIGHT - keep chest bumping yourself lol.

Wow, you got me, Smart picked him once. Again Jeff and the other ags and a few of you supposedly OU fans who kiss Smarts __ on here all the time (closet aggies is what we call you) - it's called using your eyes and anyone Except aggies could have watched that game and saw that Angel had full control of the ball/his team/ and was not bothered at all by Dumb - I mean smarty pants. Amazing someone has all the time to look through a game tape to find one steal - hmmmmmm.

LOL at all you aggies and closet aggies

What a bizarre statement. "Chest bumping" myself? How is that physically possible? I don't think you know what a chest bump is.

What is the point of posting on here if you're unwilling to have a rational discussion?

Show me one post I've made in which I "kiss Smarts __ ."

I haven't said anything about how good I think he is/isn't. I've only pointed out flaws in the arguments made for him (i.e. the problem with the Tony Allen comparison) and against him (i.e. your nonsensical statements).

(closet aggies is what we call you)
I've been on this board for a long time (longer than you), yet no one else has ever accused me of being a "closet aggie."

I've been working undercover for four years building a reputation as an OU fan on here, waiting for the right time to sabotage the board with my subversive OSU propaganda...or maybe you're just incredibly paranoid of anyone who attempts to look at an issue with any sort of objectivity.

It's pertinent when you repeatedly claim that he didn't force a single turnover, even after it's refuted by video evidence.

It's amazing that someone watched the game, remembered a particular play, and found video on YouTube to confirm it? Indeed, watching a basketball game is highly suspicious. But it's okay to watch a game if, and only if, you come to the conclusion that Marcus Smart is garbage?

You got me, though. "Closet aggie" is a good one...almost as brilliant as referring to Marcus Smart "smarty pants." Good job, Joe McCarthy.

Translation:

I have no answer for the people who keep pointing out my inconsistent, moronic, flawed "logic", so I'll just string together some more incoherent rambling about "watching the game" and throw in a few "dumb aggies" for good measure.

These are the NBA All-Star PGs and SGs:

East - Rondo, Wade, Holiday, Irving. West - Westbrook, Bryan, Paul, Harden, Parker.

Exactly who loses his spot to Marcus Smart?

IMO Marcus is not going to be a PG. I think he's going to be a defensive specialist 2 guard in the NBA.

I don't know what he is going to do in the NBA. To me that is the biggest problem with Smart and why I might pass on him in the draft.

But you didn't address the comment about him being an All-Star. I just don't see it happening. With a lot of hard work in the NBA, he could become an ALL-Star but he is more than one year away in my opinion.

Hey closet aggie - LOL - you are an angry elf - give me more reson to laugh
Ive been on here from the start - you do the math - hard for you to have been on here longer lol
chest bumping - right over your head, lol. all these goobs sitting home in front of their keyboard arguing with someone they dont know THINKING they have won something - like an argument
Rational discussions on THIS board, hahaha now thats funny
shoot I've probably had season tickets longer than you have been alive-funny

Keep going though - makes it even more fun for me!! Aggie

Smart, the Big 12 POY or national POY -NOTTTTTTT. Now all the aglets will come on here and say he hurt his ankle or he made all those assists on the free throws, lol. He is a freshman and Not a great player. He is a good player who is going to get picked top 5 in the draft and make alot of money on potential because the draft is WEAK this year. Great players don't do that in big tourney games in big moments - they step up.
