Roster Next Year

JMO, I would be happy to have back everyone with eligibility back except YaYa. I will be shocked if Fears is not a lottery pick and gone. We need a really good experienced point guard out of the portal and another Frontcourt guy with a little girth to him. I have only seen Jones play in one scrimmage this year, but thought he was a really good player. We really missed his perimeter defensive skills this year (think phelps, cam carter and Pedulla). He is tall for a guard, has long arms and is a really sound defender. He also shot the 3 well in the one scrimmage I saw. I would love to have him back but don't know how he sees OU and Moser.

Really need Rogers to be as good as he looks on film.

The only people I'm counting on as being back next season are Forsythe and Nwankwo since they're local kids. Other than that, I don't see much reason for others to stick around. The only other guys that may even be worth trying to keep in the fold for a new coach would be Jones (and it sounds like he's already gone), Miles, and Wague. Atak is an unknown. I guess you could throw Cole in there as well but he hasn't done much to warrant that after two seasons.

I wouldn't count on JN -- dude has never played a game for OU and just being a local kid doesn't mean much, nor should it.

I'd like to keep Dayton, but other than that, if our entire roster is blown up, it won't bother me a bit.

the 2 guys that portaled here and then sat out all year were bummers, wasted schollys and money we could have spent on players that could have contributed, but there's just no way of predicting these things i suppose.

I don't believe Moser will be back next year so I'd be shocked if anyone besides Forsythe returned.

This... This bothers me so bad. I know health and you have to look out for yourself but if they were truly cleared... Its play or go. or stay and use scholly but NIL money would end.

Honoring the scholly I have zero problem with.

Man I hope you’re right but just today at lunch I’m hearing they will keep him. Depressing

The one positive (prob aren’t many)would be we would get to see what Kai Rogers is all about. If PM wasn’t retained, typically the recruiting classes don’t stick around. I have no idea how good he would be as a true freshman, but he’s the best HS center we’ve signed in a hot minute.

He can't possibly be any worse than what we're rolling out there this year.

Loser moser should go get olivier rioux from Florida. He's only a walk on. He loves walk ons.
But he's like 7'7. Could offer him real playing time. Might only be 2-8 mins a game but I doubt he plays, or ever will, at florida

Hypothetically, assuming Moser is not at OU (fired or leaves for another job)....

Keep but probably not happening:

  • Jeremiah Fears - stay in college or go pro?....probably pro even if I think it's the wrong decision (to each their own, not arguing it again lol). Regardless, the next coach should at least have a conversation with him. He won't likely end up staying at OU but you kind of have to try, right?
  • Jadon Jones - I think his (on-court) presence alone would have been enough to win an extra game or two and save Moser's job/make the tourney. I doubt he'll stay either way now and has already been placed on Trilly Donovan's portal watch list.

Keep....could/should happen:

  • Dayton Forsythe - he'll command some more NIL now but he's a must keep. Foundational piece....both playing-wise (his talent) and for fans/attendance. It's his team, in a way.
  • Kai Rogers - I love his potential. The next coach needs to try hard to keep him.

Impartial:

  • Duke Miles - he's been super inconsistent and could easily be replaced. If he stays, cool. If he leaves, cool. He's not as good as I thought he'd be....became even more prevalent as the competition got harder (SEC play).
  • Alec Blair - I think he's overrated as a basketball player and could struggle in the SEC....especially right away.
  • Andreas Holst - a little too soft/Luke Northweather-esque. Needs a lot of development.
  • Jeff Nwankwo - I expect him to stay at OU and that's okay. We'll see if he can bounce back and be a good player. If he leaves though, I won't care.

On both Holst and/or Blair, I think OU would be better off letting them find new programs, while portal-ing more talented players, but if one or both is at OU next season, that's okay too, I guess. I expect Blair to be at OU because of baseball. Holst is a wild card. It depends on the next coach. A good coach probably lets him walk/develop at a mid major.

Let walk:

  • Jacolb Cole - needs to drop a level
  • Luke Northweather - needs to drop a level
  • Yaya Keita - needs to go pro in something other than sports
  • Kuol Atak - too raw and may not ever be SEC quality
  • Mo Wague - foul machine...a new coach should be able to find a better big man (or two+).

Out of eligibility:

  • Kobe Elvis - Thankfully! OU beat out College of Charleston for a kid Dayton didn't want to keep. It's like some of us knew he was a bad take...imagine that.
  • Brycen Goodine - an elite shooter...46%. Sadly, he didn't offer much more than that, though. I expected a little more defensively, for sure. Not all-SEC level...just more. I thought he was P4/5 worthy and I think that's still right. He could have helped a lot of good teams off the bench. One trick pony.
  • Jalon Moore - using hindsight, he should have portal-ed out of OU, and found a better program like Milos and/or Otega. I legit feel bad for him. Tough kid, you could tell he cared most of the time....Unfortunately, he's the prominent example of going down with the Moser ship. I hope he kills it overseas....his athleticism should earn him a nice decade long (or so) international career.
  • Glenn Taylor Jr - meh...okay at times, non-existent at other times. Truly, and easily, replaceable.
  • Sam Godwin - I can't hate on him too much. He should have been a career backup big at OU and I think that would have been a good spot for him....but alas, his coach couldn't recruit good bigs so Sam was forced to fight above his weight class (start 2 straight years in tough leagues).
I keep the guys you keep. I also keep Miles, Northweather, Nwankwo and Wague.

Miles - He looked lost at times. But at other times, he settled the offense in when Fears went off the tracks. I think he could be a good senior presence next year.

Northweather - He shouldn’t be in the role he’s in. He’s a good deep bench guy when you need a 4th or 5th shooter in for a late or key three.

Wague - Not a starter, but an athletic big with SEC experience. Can be huge in short spurts.

Nwankwo - The only one of these guys with the potential to be a main rotation guy on the kind of team we want to see. But we haven’t seen it from him yet.

In my opinion, you recruit over all of these guys, but you retain them as depth if you possibly can.

Northweather????? No freaking way. He needs to go and free up a scholly.

Many of our guys shouldn't really play on an SEC team, which means you desperately need to recruit over them. And if you manage to do that, you tell them they won't have a role unless it is due to extreme injury issues, and let them know they may want to move on to a level where they will get more minutes. If we end up keeping several players like some of you want, our chances of improving the roster aren't great. As of now, we have at most one incoming freshman who might contribute, and that is far from a sure thing. We lose our two best players, one of whom is a likely lottery pick, and the other helped carry us in noncon. All of which is to say, we need to bring in a ton of talent in the portal. There is almost no chance we will luck into a guy like Fears becoming available at the 11th hour, so we have to do a better job of bringing in transfers who are true difference makers, not just role players who can provide a good game once in a while.

disagree with 13 ships he is fine to have on the roster ..
next year ..

Seniors
Wague
Miles
Jones (maybe)
Nwankwo (who knows if he can get another year after that )

Jr
Northweather

Soph
cole
forsythe
atak

3 freshman

that would still leave 2 spots for transfers .. (and very likely someone else leaves) so 3 or more transfers . .

need a 4 man a 5 man and the very best combo guard you can find ..

(now maybe Rodgers is starting quality (i doubt that ) and you don't need another 5 ) ..

some of y'all are living in a fantasy. we desperately needed to recruit over godwin and northweather last year.....and we got wague
