WRIGHT TO PLAY PROFESSIONALLY IN TURKEY
Ryan Wright, a senior forward on last year's squad, has signed a contract to play for Ormanspor Genc in the Turkish Basketball 2 League (TB2L). Wright's team plays in the capital city of Ankara and will begin action in October. Fans can track Wright's progress here and on his Twitter page.
 
I've always been curious, did the country Turkey name itself after the bird, so native Turks refer to their country as the word meaning turkey in their language? Or is their country pronounced "Turk-ee" in their language and it just so happens to be the same as my favorite sandwich meat? Why do we call them Turkey?

Could it be named after the moder countries founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk ?
