Just curious what you folks opinion is on this event.

I'm a huge golfer but have never cared the slightlest bit about this competition. Actually find it quite humorous we totally gagged it even though I never watched a single shot.

I thought it was a waste of time as well until I watched someone on Feherty. Those guys care just as much about the Ryder Cup as they do Majors. It was a huge let down the US blew it.

It may be a much bigger event for the European golfers. I can remember being in England and the Ryder Cup was a non event for so long because the American golfers just dominated.
Of course, a lineup of Jack, Arnie, Tom Watson, and others for the 60,70s, will do that.

Wasn't until the rule changed to make it Europe v US (was UK v US) and Seve/Bernard Langer got added to players like Faldo/Woosnam that the whole event changed and became a lot more competitive.

There was a huge Euro contingent out at Medinah according to my dad who went on Sunday. Probably aided by Chicago's massive Euro ethnic community.

I think it's a great event. You take the most individual focused sport, and flip it upside down to make it a team sport. It's a great dynamic.

The raw emotion, and the drama made for some fun/exciting television. If the US would have had a chance with Tiger on the 18th, it would have been must see tv. I enjoy the competition, and the excitement shown by the players. The US puked all over themselves and that was not fun to watch......

It's obvious I'm in the minority when I say that the Ryder Cup is one of my favorite sporting events. I love to see the best players in the world display an emotion rarely seen on tour. It's a competitive event that is very different when they're playing for pride and country.

As for yesterday's singles matches that allowed the Europeans to pull off the impossible. I was sick when it was over, but not nearly as sick as Furyk, Mickelson, Stricker and Woods should have been. Those four, veterans all, choked their freaking heads off with the Ryder Cup easily within reach.

The European golfers are tougher mentally. It's that simple.

I didn't see Phil's match, but I read about it. Was it really a choke? Phil got par on #17, while Rose sunk a 40 foot putt for birdie. Sometimes you just have to tip your hat. Phil also got par on #18, while Rose sunk a birdie putt. To me that isn't choking. But I do get your point. I'm no Woods fan, but I think he'd have won the point on 18 had he needed to. That match meant nothing by the time he was hitting his approach shot.

Snedeker didn't have a good Cup either.

It hurt that Woods went 0-3 the first two days. One win by his twosome on Friday or Saturday would have helped a lot.

The people I was with watching football were raving about how great the previous days were. I've tried to watch it in previous years.

The Masters & US Open are about the only golf events I follow start to finish and even those I'll get an hour behind and then fast forward only watching the shots of the leaders.

Hoops is my favorite sport to watch by far with football second.

I love the Ryder Cup, and this weekend had a lot of drama and exciting action.

I watch some of pretty much every golf tournament, but follow all the majors from start to finish. The Masters is my favorite, followed by the US Open. The Fedex Cup Playoffs are awesome as well.

In truth, Phil played well the entire weekend. His loss was less of a "choke" than what Rose did to win the match. The point is that Mickelson didn't come through when his team needed him the most. While it's true that he made a par on 18, he wasn't on the green with his approach shot. That gave him almsot no chance of making a birdie on a hole he had to win. The cup was lost when he couldn't do more than get up and down for par.

I have my doubts if Tiger would have birded 18 if it had counted for something. He was absolutely awful in his first three matches, as bad as you can imagine one of the best ever could possibly be. This was not the dial up a shot or putt anytime he needed it we have been accustomed to over the years. Davis Love's mistake as the captain was to continue to pair Tiger with Stricker, who was even worse. Those two went 0-3 in their matches if that tells you anything.

Here's a good read from the Washington Post aptly coining the phrase Medinah Meltdown.

I can see how pro golfers would suck at something like this. They are used to getting paid for finishing 50th in a tournament.

Ryder Cup is one of the most unique sporting events, and is definitely worth a stop on the TV dial. I like it that it is an every other year thing, and it is great to see these guys play team golf for the first time in a long while or the first time period.

Euro's have gotten the better of the US over the past 10 years. 2014 will be in Scotland.

I loved watching Dufner. He doesn't look much like a golfer, but that guy has some game. He could bring a knife to a gunfight and never bat an eye. You gotta love that guy. :woot

phil didn't come close to a choke ... rose made a 25 footers on 16 a 35-40 footer on 17 and a 15 footer on 18 ... to win it from phil ..

jim furyk choked and davis love made a few poor decisions ... not playing phil and bradley on sat afternoon ... and picking furyk in the first place

not playing phil and bradley on sat afternoon ...

As soon as that was announced, I posted on another board that I thought it was a mistake. Those two guys were rolling, and they had "skipped" nearly half a round of holes b/c they finished matches off early. I didn't think "rest" was really needed. But it would have meant benching somebody else for a 2nd session, and I don't think Love wanted to do that.

I'd rather watch the Ryder Cup than any other golf tournament.

Furyk choked it away on Sunday but was decent on Friday and Saturday. Stricker sucked the whole time then pissed down his leg on Sunday. Should have been Bo Van Pelt out there instead.
