Savon Goodman

There seems to be a debate about what a 3, 4, 5 is for this coaching staff. I like lists and would like to use some former Sooner players as examples of what I think they will be looking for at each of these spots going forward.

I'll start with the 3 (small forward/wing):

Anthony Bowie
Dave Sieger
Skeeter Henry
Damon Patterson
Nate Erdmann
Nolan Johnson
Cameron Clark

The 4 (power forward)
Harvey Grant
Jackie Jones
Jeff Webster
Eduardo Najera
Aaron McGhee
Blake Griffin (SO year)
Romero Osby
Amath MBaye

The 5 (center/post)

Stacey King
Brian Sallier
James Mayden
Evan Wiley
Jabari Brown
Kevin Bookout
Taj Gray
Longar Longar
Blake Griffin (FR year)

I did not forget Wayman Tisdale and Ryan Minor. They aren't the easiest to place. Brother Tis translates to both the 4 and 5 in ways. Ryan would be a 3 but I think defense would be an issue for him against personnel he would face there.

Thoughts?

Don't forget some others!
Cheese Davis
Ken Conley
Calvin Curry
Angelo Hamilton (i think he played the 3, maybe some 2 as well)

you'd be surprised how often some of these kids just get in trouble because they hang out with the wrong crowd and they just can't say "no". I see it every day - kids who are actually pretty decent when you get them one-on-one but they don't want to make waves so they go along with some really bad crap from others with more dominant personalities.

That's why it's important to know much more in-depth information about a kid and the circumstances before making a quick judgment on him. PLUS ... if you have a group of dominant personality kids who all have their crap together then you can take one or two who might have been in some trouble and make it work pretty well. I've seen that a lot.

I think that is exactly what we're seeing here. First and foremost, you can bet that LK and his staff have already done their homework on this kid. But they also know that he will be surrounded by solid citizens in every way at OU, making it highly unlikely he will make a another mistake.

I trust our coaching staff completely in making this decision!

Does anybody know if he is leaning to OU or ASU? If it's even i'd say if he visits ASU next weekend doesn't bode well.

Discussion on ASU coeds 3...2...1...

The good thing about adding this kid, as opposed to a true big or a true guard, is that it gives us flexibility. If a guard goes down, surely one of Goodman/Buford could play minutes at the 3 without hurting us much. And on the flip side, if a big or two goes down, both of these guys should be more than capable of playing the 4 as well.

Goodman Update from April 5th

I hope OU gets him. I like his potential better than a juco big man or graduating senior with another year of eligibility. ASU gets the last crack at him next weekend.

I would be interested in hearing how his trip to Norman went this weekend.

Having seen how OU got outsized physically by NDSU.
and by Baylor and at times KU.
It would be nice to go "big" with Dante at the 3.
And some combo of our bigs at 4/5.

Doesn't that put Hield or Cousins on the bench? I hope Buford is good enough to do that but I tend to doubt it because those are two good players with experience.

Asu taking a page out of KU's book, I see.

No surprise..ASU today per Jeff Goodman I believe
