It looks like top 25 players are staying in the league a lot longer. 2012 has a combine 14 players from both sites still in college. 2013 has 13. It looks like the one and done rule is finally doing what it was meant to do. Keep the kids who aren't ready for the nba to stay in college until they are ready and the nba to draft players who are closer to being ready.

I counted 11 kids from the 2005 Rivals top 25 (the last class before the one-and-done rule) who played in college through at least 2008-2009. There are another five recruits in the 2005 Scout top 25 (but not in Rivals' top 25) who were in school for at least four years. Eight Top 25 recruits from that class skipped college. One other player was one-and-done.

Seven of the top 25 players from 2012 were one-and-done.

I think if you looked back at every year before and after the one-and-done rule, I bet what the numbers would suggest is that it's simply turning the would-be preps-to-pros prospects into one-and-done players. In other words, the number of players entering the draft after 0-1 years of college probably hasn't changed much. Also, whether you're looking at preps-to-pros or one-and-done prospects, you will likely find that the overwhelmingly majority are first rounders.

No rule is going to keep the Lenny Cookes and Grant Jerretts from making the jump the first chance they get, regardless of how NBA-ready they are(n't). But it will ensure that several NBA-ready prospects will waste several months at a college in which they have no intention of getting an education.

The rule is good for the NBA, I don't think that was ever in doubt. But is this any different than it was before? Looking at the top 25 from 2009, I see the following.

1. Avery Bradley (one and done)
2. Derrick Favors (one and done)
3. Xavier Henry (one and done)
4. Demarcus Cousins (one and done)
5. John Wall (one and done)
6. John Henson (stayed three years)
7. Renardo Sidney (stayed three years)
8. Jordan Hamilton (stayed two years)
9. Kenny Boynton (stayed 4 years)
10. Mason Plumlee (stayed 4 years)
11. Tiny gallon (1 and done, but wanted to return to school couldn't because of ineligibility)
12. Lance Stephenson (1 and done)
13. Daniel Orton (1 and done)
14. Abdul Gaddy (stayed 4 years)
15. Wally Judge (stayed 5 years)
16. Dante Taylor (stayed 4 years0
17. Ryan Kelly (stayed 4 yaars)
18. Mouphtaou Yarou (stayed 4 years)
19. Dominic Cheek (stayed 3 years)
20. Alex Oriakhi (stayed 5 years)
21. John Jenkins (stayed 3 years)
22. Michael Snaer (stayed 4 years)
23. Maalik Wayns (stayed 3 yars)
24. Tommy Mason Griffin (1 year lol)
25. Peyton Siva (stayed 4 years)

15 of the top 25 stayed at least 3 years.

Orton, gallon, tmg, Sidney, wayns, Jenkins all should have stayed til they graduated. Henry should have probably stayed at least one more year.

Gallon and TMG didn't have a choice, they weren't welcome back. Orton absolutely made the right decision. He was lazy and would have been exposed if he came back, he collected several million dollars that he wouldn't have otherwise earned.

Fairly certain Sidney wasn't welcome back to Mississippi St.

John Jenkins left at the exact right time, his stock was red hot and he is still in the league today.

Not sure what Wayns story is, but he played a couple years in the league and I would imagine that the reason he isn't still playing is that he is 6'0" and not anything to do with not returning to Nova. He played 2 seasons in the NBA, I'm sure he can afford to go finish his last year at Nova if he needs the degree.

Gallon, Sidney, and tmg did have a choice. Whether it was at OU, miss st, or somewhere else they could have stayed in college.

You're wrong about Orton. He could have gotten money and might be in the league today had he left at the right time. He's looked good in summer league games. Once you are out of the league it's hard to get back in. That's why leaving for the draft when you're ready to contribute is better than leaving with just potential.

You're right about Jenkins.

Orton 100% made the right decision. Orton is a borderline NBA player that's made more money in the league than most guys who fit into that category.

Despite not being NBA-ready and having a bum knee, he banked over $3 mil in the NBA, thanks to being a 20-year-old with a blue-chip pedigree and the allure of potential.

At age 25, he still isn't NBA-ready. It doesn't help that big men of his mold are quickly becoming obsolete in the NBA game, but he's had plenty of cracks at the NBA. He was cut from Hinkie's first Tankadelphia squad--a de facto D-League team. He's also been cut from actual D-League teams in the last year.

Gallon couldn't have played anywhere. He was ineligible due to taking the loan. TMG theoretically could have transferred, except that TMG the human in no way shape or form belonged or could hack it in a college environment.

Sidney was also a troubled kid who was not cut out for college.
