Anybody defending Capel should read this article. If you are not convinced, then there is no cure for you. Look at the state of the OU basketball 5 years ago vs the state of OU basketball now.

I think you should have worded it "anybody defending the current state of the OU program".

Whoever we get I would love to see Bob Hoffman and Evans as assistants.

No coach is going to bring in two assistants that he doesn't know, or hasn't worked with.

Whomever the new HC is, I trust he'll bring in the right assistants.

Five years ago, OU had reeled off nine straight seasons of at least 20 wins. The Sooners had been to 11 NCAA tournaments in 12 years. Sampson had left behind a core of returning players, plus a national top-5 recruiting class. Lloyd Noble Center attendance averaged 11,805.

Now, Castilgione must pitch a program coming off back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since 1965-67. Capel's only signee last November was Robert Goff, a 6-9 forward who averaged nine points and six rebounds at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College. An estimated 4,759 fans attended the OU-Nebraska game at Lloyd Noble on Feb. 16.

Five years?

Seems like a long, long time ago, in a university far, far away.

This is what we thought with Capel. According to the emails posted in the Tulsa World article, his assistants weren't really helping him any.

I did think the Barnes fellow he brought from Ole Miss was a good coach, but he was only here 1 season. I'd like to know why he left so soon.
