The guys over at ESPN seem to think we're pretty much out on Randle at this point. They have done an about face on Henry though, and say so long as he makes his grades, he is probably our 13th scholarship next year.

I'm glad to hear that. If the kid holds up his end with the grades, I like that Lon stuck with him.

From limited articles, I get the impression he's in the M'Baye mold. 6'9", athletic, and skilled. Was ranked somewhere around #100 by Rivals in the 2011 class.

It appears he is a stretch four in the mold of M'Baye and Clark. He is a little bigger than Clark (taller, at least) though. Last I had heard/seen, he wasn't a very polished offensive player. That was about two years ago though. At that point, he was getting by on his athleticism. Hopefully he has developed a little more over that time.

I have always thought that Randle was a long shot....just thought it would be nice for a big time recruit who was at least CONSIDERING us would have seen it.

He has been at juco for two.

What is awesome about what you just wrote is that it means a bench of Cousins/Woodard, Hornbeak, Cam Clark, Spangler/Bennett. That is four pretty solid players coming off the bench and it does not even consider Tyler Neal, or the other two post players that are committed to OU.

If you look at OU's wins this year one thing is pretty consistent, the bench is producing. In fact, even in some of the losses, the bench has produced (ISU for example). It is huge to get 20 points off the bench.

The one thing I want to see OU add is a three point shooter to come off the bench. Michael Neal, Lawrence McKenzie or someone like that who will stretch a defense.

That is probably exactly how it would work out. I hope you don't have to defend your opnion with the posters that think that a basketball team must have at LEAST 3 players 6'4" or under on the court at all times.

We'll see about that. He has a chance, b/c IMO, OU is a guard short. So he, instead of Cam or M'Baye, might be the guy that gets the 3 minutes.

That said, I'd be pretty shocked. The list of players OU fans swore would get minutes at the 3, but rarely did? Taylor Griffin. Nate Carter. M'Baye. Clark fizzled at the 3. Heck, some thought Osby would play out there. I think Selvy excelled as a 4, no? Patillo I cannot remember where he got his minutes.

You can't play a lineup with three guards, and have two of them that can't shoot a decent percent from three. Heck, this year is a perfect example of that. We struggle quite a bit in games where that happens this year.

I say that having also said that I haven't seen Henry play in two years. I just don't like those big guys out there trying to fight through screens, chasing guards around the perimeter. It doesn't work. Henry also doesn't seem like the kind of kid that is going to stay motivated 100% of the time. For him to come in and earn a starting spot over kids that do work hard, and have worked hard and know LK's stuff, I just think Henry coming in and starting in a long shot. Not as long a shot as M'Baye playing the 3 this year. But a long shot.

I should add that if LK wants two units of five, we may see something strange. Because if you start three from the group of Woodard, Cousins, Hield, and Hornbeak, you don't have another shooting guard on the bench. I would hate to bench Hornbeak only for that reason, but if LK is going to do what he did this year with his substitution pattern, I guess he'll have to.

I feel like we have a bunch of guys that are better as versatile 4's on the roster, so something will have to give. M'Baye, Clark, Henry if he shows up.....I think all of them are better at the 4 spot. But the 4 spot only plays 40 minutes a night, so we'll see. Next year may be the year we see the tempo change a bit. We are actually playing at the second slowest pace of the last five OU teams. And slower than last season. Next year we may be more athletic than skilled, at times, and we may try to create more hoops in transition and off the press.

My preference would be to start:

Woodard (or Cousins)
Hornbeak (hopefully we can turn him loose a little more next year)
Hield
M'Baye
Spanger (or Bennett/Elliott/Hamilton if they are better)

And bring these guys off the bench:
Cousins
Cam
Henry
Bennett/Elliott/Hamilton (probably two of them, while one redshirts)
Neal (by default, not many minutes)

As you can see though, by the numbers, SOMEBODY that is probably better at the 4 spot is going to get minutes at the 3. There is no way around that. I'd think Cam would get the first shot.

Taylor Griffin played quite a bit at the three when Pattillo was playing, and that lineup was awesome with Blake at center. Cam Clark still plays some three, and did much of his time against KU.
