Shawn Long visiting this weekend?

I rather keep Thompson for 1 more year and then find someone else in the 2012 class, then get this kid.

EXACTLY! that is the point that i have been trying to make when defending and being optimistic about grooms and arent. kruger didn't have to bring either one of them in. he is going to have them and their ships tied up for 2 yrs. the sportscaster's kid that is walking on would be fine for a backup point guard. he has been pretty salty on the aau circut. thompsom, washington,or honere could be tossed in there to get 5 on the floor. that is he could do that if the plan was to get thru next year and start building for the big deal with a pocket full of schoarships for the 12/13 season. i just don't think he would have burned those scholarships on juco's unless he thought he could get better minutes out of them than who he already had. as far as long. that is part of what kruger does. transfer's, juco, and developing raw talent over time is how he gets the players that enables him to win more games than he loses. he very seldom gets the elite recruit. he is just not willing to arrange the backdoor loans or make the too many phone calls that it sometimes takes to get those kids.

I could see this kid being a pretty solid big in a couple of years. Agree that you can't tell anything by a one-minute highlight reel, but it did look like he had good feet and bounce [i.e. quickness getting off the floor]...I don't care who offered him if he can play he can play.

Have you actually seen this kid play? TJ Franklin would walk all over Fran's son. You would be fine with him being the backup point guard for a team trying to compete in the Big 12? Surely you kid.

I'm like Mr. B, you can't tell much from a short snippet, but he looks pretty good to me. I could care less about his number of stars. For me, the issue would be how tall he is. If he is really 6'8 or better, and I mean barefoot, then he looks good to me. If he is shorter than that, then I would need to see more. I also liked the rivals scouting report that said he made a 20 on his ACT. This tells me he is pretty bright and can do his school work.

As skilled as he is with either hand, and with that outside stroke, if he is really 6'10 barefoot, then I really don't see the issue. Beg him (loan his mom money whatever) to come, unless there are character issues we don't know about. Just kidding about the loans.

there wasn't one, not one, true 6'10 kid in the Big 12 last year with a reliable outside shot. And before you say it, the Morris twins are 6'7 and 6'8/9 with shoes on. Fitz is 6'6/7 and about 6'8 with shoes on. Kids that big with skill just don't grow on trees.

Max and Baker, I don't understand your posts. Do you guys think 20 is a low score? The average ACT score in the State of Oklahoma has remained virtuallyl unchanged over the last 20 years. It is 20. The national average is 21. Private schools with a much higher socio-economic mix of students and charter schools in Oklahoma and Nationally average about 23 or 24. The only schools with substantially higher average scores than this are the math and science schools.

Not sure a 20 is what you want from a kid that wants to be an Engineer, Lawyer or Doctor, but it is a respectable score for an athlete. I don't have the data handy, but I'm fairly sure that in mens athletics, the average ACT coming into OU and OSU would be lower than 20.

When did below average become "pretty bright?"

I understand your point - it is (probably) a higher score than most MBB players (D1). It's just funny to read. Not dogging you, just the thought that a "pretty bright" MBB player falls below the national average of HS students (not college admittees).

Edit: For clarification, I thought the same thing as you when I saw his ACT score. Then I laughed at myself.

Who cares what his ACT score is? If he is eligible and Coach Kruger wants him, he is fine with me.

Like JHop said, I wasn't trying to call the kid stupid, but I was just laughing at the notion that a 20 is someone who is pretty bright. I know standardized tests don't really prove much, but I got a 32 on the thing without ever taking a practice test. And I'm no Einstein.

But like I said, I don't really care what his ACT is. If it's good enough to get him eligible, and coach wants him, that's all that matters to me.

You didn't just do that did you?:facepalm

if you are not from the state of oklahoma and you are just a regular student applying to OU as a freshman you need a 26 as a minimum and either a 3.0 or be in the top 50% of your high school class.

And I got that, wooooooooot :woot

My only point is to prove that scoring a 20 is not much of an accomplishment.
Anyway, I know I kinda opened it up a little bit, but I really don't have any desire to knock this kid for his test scores or whatever. I think Max and I were more just commenting cowboysooner's perception that 20 was a high score.
If we decide to offer him, I welcome him with open arms into the Sooner Nation. I hope he value his education highly, and really makes something of himself with or without basketball.

Frankly, maybe it is just my perception and not a reality, but we have all seen numerous kids at OU in the last 5 years that were academic casaulties and found college work to much. I'm betting, but don't know, that those kids didn't have an average ACT score.

I didn't mean to infer that a 20 ACT is a good score, but just that it is an averge score which it seemed to me would indicate that maybe the kid wouldn't struggle to be an average student.

By the way Max and Baker, I wasn't ragging you guys. Just wondering what the intent of your post was. Enjoy reading your posts.

I knew you weren't ragging, and now that you've explained yourself more, completely understand what you're saying, and agree with how important it is to have kids who are going to get and remain eligible.

The "star" player on my HS squad got a 9. All things considered, I would say a 20 is respectable.
