Easily his best game and he looked really good last night. IF he can continue in the path he is on, it will help us tremendously.

My DVR messed up so I only saw the first half. Not much chatter about the game

He did look good last night, I seen high school teams in Chicago that could stay within 10pts of ORU

Shepherd was a pleasant surprise in last night's game. His 4 of 5 shooting (1 of 2 from three) in 15 minutes was impressive. He also led the team in assists with 4, plus he had 2 Rebs and 2 steals. I can still see his breakaway two-handed slam!

This was not the first time Shep has demonstrated some potential, but it was definitely his best performance so far. If he continues to improve, think about how good he could be by the time he is a junior or a senior, or maybe even next year?

Apparently those high school teams can also play Michigan State and Ole Miss close as well

And they also played Baylor within 15 points. They've had a rather tough schedule, but last night they looked weak aside from two players.

on the post-game show Kadeem mentioned his nickname for Shepard is Baby Russ, because he has that "killer instinct" to take over a situation

That's a dang good tidbit. I think we got a good one. He was much more assertive last night. Keep on pup....

Not to put too fine a point on it, but it's got some surface similarity: lightly-recruited combo guard from a small high school surrounded by powerhouses, came into a program after a Final Four run with no clear path onto the depth chart, caught attention during workouts, but might be a sleeper as an underclassman.

I like Shepard. The fact that he is able to contribute as a true freshman means he will be a positive piece on this roster for the next 4 years, even if he never is a starter or a star. And he could develop into those things, too, but that's just gravy at this point. I think people were worried that he was a reach when Lon offered him, but I think it's clear that that's not the case.

Good post, sperry! I agree with your assessment of Shepherd. He's a superb athlete who appears to have a high upside.

One thing I like that no one has mentioned. Despite his slight build, this kid is fearless. The same can be said about nearly everyone on the team. But young Mr. Shepherd stands out above the rest.

Trae and Shepard were seen hugging after the game, so I don't think Trae would shy away from OU based on "Baby Russ". I know you were half kidding, at least I think you were - damned hard to judge sarcasm on these boards ;)
