Sherri is VERY overpaid for her efforts lately.....

Been following this board for a long time this thread has digressed into the most ridiculous bunch of comments I believe I have ever seen. Some of you are just plain bat s--- crazy. You would be just as well off debating the mating habits of a tree frog vs. a buffalo. I am not happy with our recent results but sherri deserves the opportunity to fix it, quickly.

Go, you don't have to read the thread if it get's your panties in a wad. Just don't click on it. Sherri is believe it or not the 3rd highest paid coach OR employee on the campus, if she is not performing she has to take corrective actions just like I would with my job or likely anyone else. No matter what she or anyone has done in the past, it is the current that we are wanting some accountablility brought to.

How much she makes is really irrelevant. Decosta did not make much, she was just apparently a bad head coach. Results or lack there of are the measurement. Sherri has had good results and her salary went up. In coaching as well as business if the results start to slide they don't cut your salary you just get let go.

Correct, but in coaching as well as business when the paycheck expands so do expectations of the fans. Like I said in a previous post, $1 million per year is nothing to sneeze at especially when that money could be used elsewhere like in a program that pays for itself or one that is having a bunch of success (Softball). She's the 5th highest paid womens coach but our program is not the 5th best. Maybe 15th.

So, her salary is very relevant given all these factors.

Decosta is an asst coach so she really has no bearing on this conversation unless you are saying she needs to be fired.

Vinnie the issue I would have is in the title. I seriously doubt that many if any poster on this board has a clue about the effort that Sherri is applying to the team. If you say that she is being overpaid for the results then maybe there is a case.

Some would fire all the coaches and bench all the starters after the first bad loss in the season. Fortunately we have an Athletic Director who is wiser than that. That is why none of us are Athletic Directors.

This team appears to have under achieved. In basketball it is hard to determine the impact of the loss of a player like Joanna McFarland. Maybe the team was over rated. But we were led to believe that we would be challenging for the conference championship rather than fighting to make the NCAA.

I do feel that the team is under achieving. I base that on the fact that they have shown that they can play almost any team tough at times. And the up and down performance of the individual players. And the repetitive unforced errors. And the apparent up and down energy.

Sherri's fault, players fault. Who knows. Sometimes you just can't get young people to respond the way you want them to. Bench them? Who knows. Maybe all of them insist on throwing passes to our 6-6 center's knees and ankles. So you bench a good player to replace her with someone who makes the same mistakes in practice.

Certainly some criticism is due but some of it has been over the top.

NC- I have supported this program with attendance and finances for Many years. I love the team but I know what I am seeing this year is not good. Many on this board consider any negative statement to be mean, but that is never my intensions BUTmany take it that way. I don't see gray, I am a very black and white person. Facts are facts and when you make that kind of doe, you should be held accountable. The McDonalds employee is held accountable for not doctoring a hambuger right, shouldn't Sherri be held accountable for not recruiting at the highest level?

Well the softball team has already lost as many games as they lost all of last year so I think we should probably fire the coach!
Are you saying we do not need a basketball coach so we will save all that money?

I was speaking of when Decosta was a head coach in Calif. she did not make much and did even less. I have no idea how good an asst. she is.

As for Vin I read some things so I have humor in my day! Even if they are bat s--- crazy.

Didn't the softball team win the NC last year? Not to mention they lost the best player in college softball so Patti has a few years or more based off these 2 items. Not to mention she's paid about 25% of what Sherri makes. Not to mention the OU basketball team is 27 games (of a 35-40 game season) into the season and the softball team is < 10 (of a 60 game season). So, your mention of the softball team given these factors is asinine.

No, we need a womens basketball coach and you know I'm not saying that, surely you do right? I mean, I'm assuming you are smarter than the average bear, but you know what happens when we assume.

Again, DeCosta has no bearing on this conversation unless this is a San Jose State board?

Come on you all, it's your own fault. You are the ones who keep clicking on it - soooo funny.

Vinny, I'm sure you are a good fan. But with your standards for recruiting there would probably be only 15-20 coaches of the several hundred Div I schools who would not be in trouble or terminated for not recruiting at the highest level.

Sherri has recruited well enough to usually be in the top tier of the conference and it looks like she has a good group coming in next year. She has not recruited well enough to be national top tier or players like Stokes from Connecticut or Shimmel from Louisville would be at OU. You may go through a lot of coaches before you have one that consistently lands elite recruits. You may never get there because we would have a quick trigger rep.

Joe C takes his time to evaluate his coaches but eventually Capel is gone, Spates is gone, we have Kindler in gymnastics, some of the football assistants are gone and I'm not sure Golloway isn't gone because Joe C felt we needed new blood to raise the program to a higher level. Coaches can get the message that they are better served elsewhere. I suspect he has a good feel for what ails this team.

Not ragging on you but with your standards you may feel better is you are a UConn fan which by the way is my second favorite team.

Scrybe old buddy, if you keep replying the thread will continue to live on. :)

Actually, Booger, the thread has provided me with some pretty good insights and more than a few chuckles. I guess I just thought it was time to provide an observation of my own. Anyhow, it's always good to see you on the board, Booger. I respect your opinions more than you could possibly know. Oh, and I'm also glad to be counted as your buddy.

I've told you before Scrybe, if you ever make your way to KC, an adult beverage of your choice will be waiting for you! :D

I've heard Jim Traber say the exact same things about Sherri. Come to think of it I have never seen Vinnie and Traber in the same place at the same time? :)
