If OU offered Marquise Carter and Jawanza Poland scholarships in December or January I bet they both would have committed on the spot.

When you treat them like they are your last option, you take a serious risk with them not choosing you.

Thats what Capels done every year he's been here. Go after the big names (Lucas) and slow plays the solid players (Roberson) and ends up with Leary. Just to give an example...

Can't really argue with this, but it really seems like something happened to make these guys abruptly cancel a visit just a couple of days beforehand.

With Carter I thought it was a possible commitment from West; but now with Poland on the outs it is clear that something is up.

Am I asking to much for Capel or Castiglione to come out and say something about the state of the program. I know that they cannot talk about recruiting, but my goodness, anything positive would be nice.

I know. If they would just frickin tell us something!!!!

My concern is that there is NOTHING positive to tell us. Generally speaking, damage control is a pretty big deal when there is so much speculation surrounding an athletic department.

You may be right. Maybe thats why we havent heard anything. Thats really sad.

I dont care though. I just like to hear it from Capel or Castiglione instead of twitter or facebook.

Until they clear the air on the subject, I doubt we get any commitments. I am sure all the schools we are competing against in recruiting are letting the recruits know about all this negative crap, and until something is said I doubt it changes.

Me too.

Something is clearly being said to these recruits that is causing them to cancel visits and make commitments to other programs. These statements are either being made by someone associated with OU or they are being made by someone not associated with OU. If it is coming from OU, then I'd at least like a hint as to what the problem is, if they are coming from a source that is not related to OU, then someone, either Capel or Joe C., needs to step up and stop the bleeding one way or another. If things are jacked up, then just say so, if things are fine, then just say so, if you aren't sure where things stand, then just say so, becuase ANYTHING is better than the speculation that we are seeing right now.

If Carter was as close to Capel as OUHoops suggested, then would he be swayed by someone outside the program?

I think not...seems to me like the University has either rescinded the offer or Capel may be getting fired (or is leaving).

I think other schools are really negative recruiting against OU right now and they have a lot of ammunition to use.

Frankly, most kids would rethink signing with OU right now. Carter is such a red flag because (a) he plays a position of need that we have no one to play and (b) he has family ties to the school and he has always been a big fan.

If OU can't get that kid, they are in big trouble.

At this point, I would be surprised if Capel is still OU's coach by the time May rolls around. There is just too much smoke at this point.

I don't disagree with this at all, but throw the Poland cancellation into the mix and it is not looking good at all. Speculation makes me crazy.

I agree BOK.

If there is proof (A Big If!!) that Coach O arranged the money to Gallon, then Capel is out of a job. That cannot happen under any circumstances and even if Capel didn't know, he is responsible.

This is not like Bomar and Big Red, this is a staff person that would be involved.

We all know that AAU is a dirty business but that doesn't excuse the deed.

I doubt seriously that rumors among the fans have any influence on recruits. What those recruits learn from coaches counts, not our need for information. The main purpose that general information serves is to counter (or support) what other coaches are using against us which right now I suspect is a lot. The admin knows this and therefore I think their info isn't complete. If that info was bad they could still release it and there would be some idea about what penalties were coming and we could start moving on.

Something very bad is going on, as it stands now we barely have enough players to field a team. If we don't bring in at least 2 to 3 more bodies we are in big trouble. Coach Capels silence really causes me the most concern!!!

They may have committed earlier...But they still couldnt sign until April 15th, which would have given them ample time to decommit and go elsewhere amongst all this crap.
