Signing period

syb,
I don't think that's true.
Most schools release incoming players from their LOI when a coach is fired/leaves.
When a team is put on probation, players can transfer without sitting.

But I know of no NCAA rules that allows existing roster players to leave a school and be immediately eligible.
Especially inside the same conference.

I think the primary concern is, we not only need bigs, we need really good bigs. Texas has some great bigs. If Sherri isn't spending time at the major events to help get some of them to OU, that's a problem. Kids will notice if Aston is there but Sherri isn't.

Pendley and Stevens are playing because the rules on transfers sitting out is different for softball than it is for basketball.

They cannot play in the same year that they transfer. But, they can play as soon as the establish the residence requirements.
Unless an exception is met, all transfer student-athletes must meet the "residence requirement" to be eligible to compete in intercollegiate basketball. The residence requirement stipulates that a student must be enrolled in and complete a minimum number of full-time credits for two semesters or three quarters, or at least enroll in and pass the minimum number of full-time credits for two semesters or three quarters. Summer terms do not count as semesters, but can contribute to the credit requirement.

It is quite possible that the NCAA rules might be met. The Big Twelve rules?

So Syb,

I take it you are thinking a transfer IN is possible. I feel certain you don't think you can be more specific for us.

Perhaps, however, you could tell us from inside the Big 12 or out, and if outside, what region of the country?

I'm guessing we are talking about someone 6-1 or taller.

What about a graduate that has 1 year. I know in mens they don't sit out a year. Maybe thats what OU needs. A 1 year transfer.

Mike I was thinking the same thing, any graduate from a Uconn or Tenn or from a big time school? Maybe a 4/5 type player riding the bench but sees a chance to start at OU.

The graduated rule would work here.
Iowa State in men's hoops is getting a power forward thru this rule.
Tarik Black at KU used this rule going from Memphis to KU.

You can transfer and apply for a hardship ruling if there's an illness in the family.
Tashard Choice received a positive ruling like this.
Former Ohio State LB Mike Mitchell is transferring back to home. Hoping to be eligible this fall.

There is no rule about coaches' getting fired and players being eligible immediately.

The name mentioned was a player at a Big 12 school who is not eligible for the graduation rule.
I don't see any way she would not have to sit out a year which does not help OU at all.

NCAA data released in the past week stated that 39 of 62 undergrad basketball players were granted immediate eligibility after they presented a waiver with their reasoning for wanting to not sit out the custom redshirt year. That's a 63-percent success rate. That number makes a lot of people skeptical, and is the reason why there's a push for reform.
Immediate eligibility is quite possible with undergraduates.

Given the OU roster and the commitments that OU has from Oklahoma, who would Sherri be needing to see? Since we have Gioya, LaNesia, T'Ona, Sharane, Chelsea, and Ana from Oklahoma, it would seem that we don't need the AAU to find Oklahoma players.

The 2016 commits are lipstick on a pig. Sherri's recruitment of big time Oklahoma girls is mediocre and for a top program unacceptable.
Go look up the top Oklahoma girls the last five years and the list is very much lacking in OU commits.

Agreed. A Friend of mine once told me that when it comes to recruiting instate for coach coale she gets a bit "lazy" in a weird way. He stated that if you do not accept her offer when she offers you she kind of backs off or stops recruiting as hard cause you did not accpept or you want to keep your options open. For instance getting upset at C Walker for wanting to take a visit.

Kind of a either you accpept my offer cause i'm Sherri Coale or Im done recruiting you type mentality. but on the other hand she focuses her time and energy on players across the country. The ones we're in on but cant close the deal. Meanwhile you have instate kids with a bitter taste in their mouths

Another instance is that she is known for making a late offer. Offering a kid at the last minute, if her plan on landing an out of state kid doesn't fall into place.

This kind of stuff leaves a bitter taste in the high school coaches also. No wonder Coale has such a dismal showing with the elite high school players.

Let's see:
Kaylon Williams
Sharane Campbell
Gioya Carter
T'Ona Edwards
LaNeisa Williams

Chelsea Dungee
Anna Lanusa

Yep. Sherri is ignoring Oklahoma talent. We only have five now with two more on the way. Of course, we all complain about having too many guards. Yet, when I see what everyone is talking about, it is a bunch of 5-9 or 5-10 guards and forwards. We seem to think that every Oklahoma player that we don't recruit will be a superstar.

Where are the 6-5 players in Oklahoma, those that we need? We don't seem to have a bunch of post products in Oklahoma. We find them in places like California, Wisconsin, Florida, or, maybe, even Arkansas. But, we can't recruit every 5-10 guard in the state of Oklahoma. We get the best and go where the players are.

DFW and Houston have metroplex areas that have more people than in the entire state of Oklahoma. We find that the metroplexes around Chicago, LA, and San Francisco have a lot of people. Las Vegas is bigger than OKC and Tulsa combined. We're hitting Florida because that is where the talent is.

I must admit that I'm not at all concerned about whether a bunch of Oklahoma highschool coaches are upset with Sherri, not that I think they are. You will find some nuts in any bunch. Sherri is among the best in the nation, and I figure that she has built something that none of them could even imagine.

Does it occur to any of the detractors to look at what is said about certain players that you all seem to want, that they take time off during the game? Do you just hear about the possibilities, but not look at commentary?

You must be naive to think that high school coaches do not influence players when they are choosing a college to sign with.

You're right. I know that many high school coaches help the kids narrow down their list by providing information about schools, coaches, teams, etc.

In order for us to get back to being a top 10 program, somehow, someway, Sherri has GOT to get just one elite player to commit. That player could be a Lauren Cox, Katie Samuelson, Kalani Brown, Joyner Holmes, etc. She can then use that recruit to get a few other elite players to give us serious consideration. Sherri had the Paris twins and DRob but didn't use their star power to her recruiting benefit. That has to change if we are going to move up the ladder. If Texas, UNC, S. Car., Baylor, UCLA, etc can get elite players, we can too.
