Paige Parker will likely be the pitcher of the group. Gasso says she is a smaller Ricketts, a power pitcher (and hitter) from the left side.

OU plays Tenn Friday evening at 6pm on ESPN2. We play again Sat. at 4pm on ESPN.

I feel certain she will compete for the job. It sounds like she may be a very good pitcher. But, if she can hit really well, I'm sure Patty will find a place for her even if pitching doesn't work out.

Arizona recruited her as a pitcher but she is a big time hitter and CF. She broke all of her sisters HR records in HS and has stolen over 40 bases each year. She can hit with power and slap because she is blazing fast. You can expect she will replace Destinee Martinez in CF and won't pitch because Paige Parker will be the real ace next year. You talk about a cannon for an arm in the outfield.

Paige Parker is like Ricketts - big left hander that hits 70 on the radar gun and has already played in International Competition. She shut out Team Japan last Summer and she hits like Ricketts as well. Paige will be in the lineup every game even when she is not pitching.

Great news! Enjoying this year but really looking forward to next year. If Paige can come in and be strong I can see a similar year to last year in the plans (barring injury!).

Ditto. We both foresee great things for our Sooners next year and beyond … and this season isn't over yet, either.

Exactly! If Kelsey can avoid the HR and the walks, we could do some damage this year. I'm hoping she had a case of jitters. Offense is really playing well right now and they have to continue.

As the competition gets tougher, I'm a bit concerned with pitching and hitting near the bottom of the lineup. The other parts of the team are strong.

I watched a ton of games over the weekend in the regionals, and I get the feeling that there are no truly dominant teams this year (at least none on the level of last year's Sooner squad). Alabama is very good with Jackie T. on the mound. Oregon seemed to be head-and-shoulders better than anyone else in their regional (but that regional was weak). And Florida State's pitcher was very impressive in the two games I watched the Seminoles play. She's not overpowering, but she has pinpoint control and changes speed really well.

We should know pretty quickly how well we'll stack up against higher level opposition when we host Tennessee in our Super Regional. If the Vol batters start teeing off on Kelsey, we'll simply have to outslug them if we expect to move on to the WCWS. Normally, I'd say "no problem," but with Kadie out for the rest of the year and Laura with that gimpy knee, it's anybody's guess how we will respond against the SEC team. I'm not really concerned, though, about the bottom of our batting order. Parsons, Martinez and company are fierce competitors and they know how to hit.

I haven't seen that "great" team either. Every team that remains has a weakness or two, and it may be more of a case of not losing than that of winning. I am more concerned that we don't have that great pitcher that we have had when we won. But, some of the best pitchers have been eliminated by a lack of any offense.

In any short series like a World Series, a great player like a Pendley or Chamberlain can have a miserable series. We really need for both to do well, and we need some help from the bottom of the order. Last year, the winning rally in that long nightmare was initiated by the bottom of the batting order, an advantage that we had last year. We had people like Martinez and Turang at the bottom. I hope we don't miss Self too much. Her consistency is what we need.

But, we were the only team last year that had two ace pitchers and a great bottom of the order. This year, I don't see that anyone has that. In one game, Tennessee, Florida State, Alabama, UCLA, and Oregon have a pitcher than can beat you. But, they really don't appear to have the hitting to knock out a solid pitcher. They can kill an underdog. I think that it will be difficult for any of them to beat OU. But, we can beat ourselves.

Stevens is inexperienced at this level, and she just had her worst weekend of the year. She had location problems in all three games. We don't have a replacement. She needs to have a decent super and series, not sensational, just decent. If you watched, you saw A&M beat themselves with errors. Tennessee did that last year. Boston had LSU buried, and lost due to an error. Errors cost some teams. Stevens OK, and no errors. If that happens, our hitters should be able to do just enough without being hot. But, I don't see us as the favorites---this year. If Kelsey were to get hot----?

Glad to see Stevens getting some pub at OU. We get to see clips of her and Shelby Pendley occasionally on local TV.

But, it also made me curious: didn't OU sign a big-time JC pitching prospect for this year? I forget her name, but I don't think she's been out there too much at least, this season.

Ham.

Without Stevens this season would already be over. She is the reason that OU is playing in the Supers. Lets hope she pitches like she did in late March and April the rest of the way.

Did she get hurt, or just not perform up to par?

There's no doubt that Stevens' late transfer to OU, from Tree-U (Stanford), was a big thing for this year's team.
I don't know. She pitched about three innings, was pretty ineffective, and we haven't seen her since.

I look for her to settle down. This is her first time on the big stage, and she seemed to have some difficulty with it. She is not the type to have control problems. But, she did this weekend. Usually, she wins because of location. But, the first time on the big stage can be difficult for a pitcher. Everything hangs on her. She reminds me a lot of Gascoigne who could pitch a shutout in the title game. She isn't the power pitcher that Keilani was. If Kelsey pitches the way she has done for the past couple of months, we could take this thing again. But, I think she'll be a lot more comfortable on this stage next year.

It could be interesting to see what kind of pub that Stevens and Pendley get here in Albuquerque when the Super Regional starts. They've received some good recognition on TV at least. But I also remember being amused, when Beky Preston signed with OU over UNM, that many of the deluded locals thought Preston picked an inferior program. I think OU has debunked that myth long ago, especially with those two double-figures wins at the Pit in the same season (the Paris' twins freshman year).
