NORMAN — What’s been most impressive about Oklahoma’s 39-game win streak heading into the postseason?
It’s not the way the Sooners have dominated opponents. Only five times since a Feb. 22 loss to UCLA has the opposition stayed within two runs of OU.
During the streak, OU has allowed three runs only five times. That’s great, but still not on top of this list.
It’s arguably the way the Sooners avoid talking about having the longest single-season winning streak in NCAA Division I softball history. OU is just eight wins from owning the all-time record, which was set by Arizona (47 wins) during the 1996 and 1997 seasons.
“We’re just very, very competitive. We don’t look at win streaks — we just want to win every game,” senior infielder Caleigh Clifton said. “We know we have a high expectation for ourselves. All of us hold each other to that. I think that’s how we got to the 39-win streak.
“It’s not looking at streaks. We just don’t want to lose. We’re playing to win every game.”
