OU leads Mississippi 4-0 after the top of the first. Pendley hit her third home run of the year as the leadoff hitter.

Paige Lowary is struggling somewhat in relief, giving up single runs in the bottom of the 4th and 5th. 8-3 with the Sooners coming to bat in the top of the 6th.

Lowary continues to have control issues in the bottom of the 6th. Hits two batter and has a wild pitch after getting the lead off hitter to ground out. One out leadoff hitter up runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out.

Lopez gave up a 3 run homer, now lead down to 11-8. Our pitching definitely not top notch.

I have been watchng GameTracker, why did Paige Parker leave in the early innings?

I don't think Patti wanted to use one pitcher too much with a double-header tomorrow.

The home run was hit by Brit Finney, former OU pitcher.

Lowary lost it tonight, but is credited with the win.

This Houston team started the season going 4-4 with losses to Wichita State, Boston College and twice to Wright State. They gave up 29 runs in the four losses. OU scored 1 in the top of the 5th on a walk, single, WP and sacrifice fly. Before today Houston pitcher Heebner had thrown 12 innings, had a 4.67 era and opponents were hitting .292. Top the 6th. Single, passed ball, single, strike out and double tie game 3-3. Knighten at bat Romero on 2nd. Knighten singled runners on 1st and 3rd. Aviu lined to 3rd two out. Hatfield grounds out. Bottom of the 6th 3-3.

Game tied 3-3 going to extra innings. Clifton, Romero and Knighten due up. Playing international rules. OU comes to bat with a runner on 2nd base. Clifton doubles Pendley scores. Romero doubles Clifton scores. Sooners up 5-3. Houston starting pitcher being pulled for relief pitcher. OU scores 4 in top of the 8th and lead 7-3.

Houston will be at bat in bottom of the 8th with a runner on second base. Houston cleanup hitter homers for two runs. Score 7-5 with one out. Ground out and single. Runner on 1st, two out OU up 7-5. Batter strikes out. Game over OU 7-5

Sooners win, 7-5, in 8. Not pretty though.

When was last time Paige P gave up 10 hits in a game???

Someone explain to me why international rules places a runner on second in scoring position? Is the purpose to avoid long, drawn-out games by enhancing the scoring possibilities? And why were we playing with international rules? Anyone know?

It's rather vague in my memory. When Keilani pitched the first game she played in the finals of the International tournament against Japan, they used these.

It goes something like this.

---they play eight innings, sometimes nine, the usual way.
---then, they put a runner on first
---then, they put runners on first and second

They keep put two runners on until someone scores. Keilani got beat when they put two on and had a successful sac bunt.

If you don't do this, with the top international pitchers, you could play two days before anyone scores a run.

I googled it, here is the link explaining the tiebreaker ISF rule.

Still not sure why the two teams decided to play the ISF tiebreaker rule, unless it was by agreement between Gasso and the Houston coach - - considering that they were playing a doubleheader.
According to the link above, the ISF tiebreaker does not come into play until the 10th inning in NCAA fastpitch ball, so it is curious that they decided to implement it after 7 innings.

How common is it to do this, anyone know?

Probably a mutual ageement among the coaches to limit the innings played with 4 games scheduled in 2 days. Get caught in an extra innings games that goes 10-12 innings or more can have a significant impact on a pitching staff where you are already throwing 28 innings.
