I could care less about having a national title come to the Big 12, unless it's by OU. I rooted against Baylor against UCONN, and absolutely celebrated their loss to Louisville roughly for years ago. And their meltdown (players and a certain coach) on Twitter proved why I did that.

Yeah, I'd just as soon the Big 12 never win another NC if Hypocrite U wins it!

Peyton obviously player of game.

I thought it was a good, tough win where we stayed calm (something I really liked) and fought and scrapped until the end.

Re: Gabbi and T'Ona. I thought it was a pretty even match tonight. Edwards turnovers were troubling; out of control as some have pointed out. But she makes a lot of good things happen. She's faster, quicker and better on defense most of the time. Gabbi is a better shooter and passer. She dribbles too much, however.

I think Edwards is more the type of point that Sherri likes.

I just think Sherri will continue to switch them out until one seizes the opportunity.

I really like Mulkey. She is going to be great. I thought Vivi had a solid game but had to settle in.

One thing I noticed from being at the LNC yesterday- we need to work on throwing the ball in to Nancy where she catches it with her arms extended above her head where no one else can reach it. We are consistently throwing it to her at about head level, and she doesn't have very strong hands yet. When she improves her strength and her catch and shoot game she will become an offensive force, sometime next year likely.

Glad the Sooners got the W today... I think Mulkey has a chance to be Big12 FOY she's looked the best so far out of all the freshman around the big 12 thru 2 conference games, still a long way to go but I'm not sure anyone else will come on strong going forward... also based off two games it looks like speedy point guards will give us trouble. Both Washington and Alix had big games.

Back when Brenda was doing commentary for the Kansas game she made a comment that Mulkey and Dungee both starting was the first time to freshman started together since 2003 for the Sooners , but I thought she's wrong since Jenna and Amanda started in the 06-07 season vs Texas atlest for one game if I'm correct? Anyway i think both have a chance to be on the all freshman team witch would be a 1st for the Sooners.

I think currently FOY is Lauren Cox's award to lose, but Mulkey and/or Dungee certainly have a shot if they continue their pace.

I'm concerned that this OU team continues to have very slow starts. We're usually able to pull ourselves out of the hole, but we're eventually gonna play good teams where we need a hot start.

Last year, our biggest conference road win was at TCU by 13. We beat KU in Lawrence by six. Well, we beat TCU by 13 as well last year in Norman, but by 15 this year. We clipped Kansas by 30, bigger than any road win last year in the conference. We really haven't played well yet. But, we have been pretty effective.

Nancy does result in an open game. Things happen. We tend to move with her on the floor, as Sherri noted yesterday. Our slow first half might have been due to her foul trouble, as Sherri thought. Vivi played more within herself than she has been---fewer mistakes and poor decisions. Still can't pass.

Maddie and Peyton are becoming a rather effective pair. One or the other seems to get the job done, or maybe together. They are the only two that do all the little things. They could use a little help from Gabbi and Chelsea if they would cut down on mistakes.

We won, rather easily. I don't remember a lot of easy wins last year.

If you look around, K-State was clobbered in Waco. But, they rebounded to beat undefeated West Virginia by 15 in Manhattan. West Virginia really hadn't played anyone who could beat them, their two toughest games being at home.

Texas struggled at Iowa State and was down by a point with about two minutes left. Iowa State went blank. OSU went to Tech and lost solidly. Baylor just keeps rolling along. But, none of the others seem to be at that top level, and we may just get there if Nancy, Maddie, and Peyton keep rising.

If you look at Lauren game-by-game, she hasn't scored against their top opponents. She mops up against the Winthrop types.

0--UCLA, UConn, Tennessee
2--Ohio State
5--DePaul, Kansas
7--Abilene Christian
9--Mississippi Valley
11--Texas State
12--Kansas State
15--Kent State
21--Southeastern Louisiana
23--Winthrop

What she is doing is getting free throws: 37-50

She is shooting about 45% and getting some blocked shots. She is good. But, she hasn't established herself yet against conference-quality opposition. She will. She just hasn't yet.

I can't imagine FOY won't go to Joyner Holmes. Makes the biggest impact as a freshman in the Big 12. Although LC is good she has two outstanding post players ahead of her she seems to really only get good minutes against mediocre teams or in huge wins. Nancy has done well for OU mostly impacting the D side - nothing wrong with that most teams would love that option!

Holmes hasn't been consistent and yesterday there other freshman Sutton looked better, witch is why I think Mulkey has as good a chance as anyone... 1st she went scoreless in the first half, then she made a impact in the second half... I noticed that the motion offense is moving when Nance is in because she's not a normal post up big, yes she can post up but she also moves around a lot... Seeing her go head to head vs Lewis and K- state this week could be interesting...

Cox did have a good opening game with 12 points in 9 minutes, but I think playing behind basically 2 All Big 12 type post will hurt her.

I think it may be a close race. Holmes has started most games. But, she also has a little of the same problem as Lauren in that she performs better against poor teams. She is a solid rebounder, but is a turnover-machine. After two games in the conference:

Cox/Holmes/Nancy

Min: 22/56/38
FG%: 41.67 (5-12)/38.89 (7-18)/71.43 (10-14)
FT%: 70.00 (7-10)/42.86 (3-7)/33.33 (2-6)
PT: 17/17/22
REB: 7/15/14
Assist: 2/2/0
Turnover: 1/5/1
Steals: 0/2/1
Blocks: 3/3/13
Fouls: 4/5/4

Thus far, Nancy has the best FG%, most points, 2nd in rebounds, and leads by far in blocks.

Despite not starting and playing little in early games, Nancy is #13 (tied) in the NCAA for blocked shots. There are four other Big Twelve players in the top fifty: Montgomery, Lewis, Brown, and Mompremier.

Maddie is #35 in steals.

OU is up to #20 in the AP, tied with California.
Baylor #2, Texas #15, West Virginia #17, Kentucky #24, Kansas State #25

In the NCAA rpi:
#9 Kansas State, #14 Baylor, #16 Kentucky, #18 Oklahoma State, #26 California, #29 Oklahoma, #32 Texas Tech, #36 Texas, #45 South Dakota State.

I have often envisioned Nancy more in the Russell mold. A lot of people don't even know who he was.

Not a great game by OU. Peyton did what she always does, and her shots were falling. Maddie does what she always does, and hers weren't. But, we got 25 and 12 from them. Mulkey did well with 8 points on 4 of 5 from the field. She had six blocks.

Vivi struggled a bit. But, she finished well, playing good defense (3 blocks), and she scored 13 with 9 boards. Maddie had 8 boards. I guess that Gabbi was OK, but not great.

Everyone else was mediocre today, or worse. TT had a horrible game, poor decisions. We didn't really hustle until we came out in the third quarter. Then, we shut them down 26-11 in the third to take control of the game. Other than for the third quarter, TCU played us even, and they are not a good team.
TT's offense was not good at all, but her hustle, rebounding, and defense were a real positive. We have to remember, there is more to team play than just offense.

PS It would be great if Nancy could exhibit some of the character, defense, and leadership of Bill Russell

TT played 8 minutes less than Ortiz. Statistically they were basically even, with TT hitting 75 percent of her FT (3-4) compared to 50 percent (3-6) for Ortiz. Gabbi had 2 more rebounds, Gabbi had 2 baskets to TT's 0, TT had 2 steals to
Gabbi' zero.

Edwards had more turnovers 4 to 0. That was her big weakness.

But Edwards really made things happen. She played better D against TCU's big scorer. She
forced players to help on defense, opening others for open shots.

She was a problem for TCU, Gabbi really wasn't.

If the time played had been closer, I think Edwards would have led in every stat.

I'm not saying she should have played more or started.

What I am saying is I think Edwards has a real up side right now that Ortiz simply does not have.

It's up to TT to make the most of her opportunities and right now, I think silly turnovers are what is keeping this competition close.
